  1. It really drives me nuts when ESET AV blocks a site that I do not want it to. I keep on filing false positive reports but nothing changes. I would like there to be an option to allow a site/domain on the 'site blocked' notification. I cannot think of any reason why ESET blocks Sourceforge, for example.

  2. When one buys another license, how soon can one enter the new license information so one does not lose any time on the old one?

    Thanks

PS Due to a poor showing by Bitdefender during testing and a price drop on Amazon.co.uk, looks as if I will be with ESET for another year.

  3. Hi SweX... glad I'm not alone.

As for downloading files, I've noted a time or two files can be slightly larger when you download them from third party say rather than the proper source.

    Dave

That is why I buy kosher retail copies.

  4. I am in the UK. I am keeping an eye on the UK Amazon site. AV companies tend to regionalise their products so I would not want to risk getting a version not intended for my locale. I an VERY jealous of the deals our colonial cousins :D get in retail. It breaks my heart every time I visit the USA.

  5. Amazon's price has dropped £6 per 3 PC licence and it is now cheaper than buying from ESET. Hopefully ESET will come out with some offers if I wait until the last minute. It's a bit like one gets offers to shareware only if one uninstalls it whilst fully intending to buy it.

  6. Ditched Bitdefender pretty sharpish for various reasons. Not that I care to test it again, it seemed to have deleted some system folders - the system could boot up but I restored from the backup taken before the install.

@G4COE - I am from that big city that you mentioned that you are near to.

  7. Hi Dave,

    Saving for an FTDX1200 ;-).

Bitdefender 3 user/1pc £11.39 - and it has been hitting top marks in many reviews. I also do like ESET, but 70 sovs against 23 for 6 PCs...it's a no brainer.

  8. In Slovakia, we haven't changed the price for a long time. When there was a change in price in the past, the price was reduced. The same goes for the US to my best knowledge. The pricing policy is a matter of distributors in particular countries and basically should be similar to the price of other competetive products. A new license of ESET Smart Security for one computer costs 49,90€ for 1 year here in Slovakia (updates are a bit cheaper then). ESET Family Security pack for 3 computers and 3 mobile devices costs 69,90€ for 1 year.

The price of the product I am interested in, 3PC/1yr x2, was £17 last year from Amazon, is £35 this year and ESET UK's price is £31. At least half of the products I have checked are significantly cheaper. A 10 PC Vipre licence is £50. Norton AV is £24 for 3 licences. ESET is no longer competative IMHO. Money is money and times are tight.

  9. Hi,

ESET's price is not significantly cheaper than Amazon's.

I would not buy software that is intended for another country - there is a chance it would not activate so US intended ESET may not work in the UK. ESET is one of the more expensive AVs at the moment.

  10. Very disappointed to see that ESET's price has doubled in the last year on a like-for-like basis. £17 last year for a 3 user/1 yr licence from Amazon, £35 this year. The slightly lower price (£31.50) from ESET for a download is not good value when Amazon ships a physical product. It is unlikely that I will defect, but I am checking out other products, most of which are cheaper.

  11. Happy New Year to ESET and everybody here.

To ESET - thanks for making a product that works and I cannot tell it is running. Jumped ship from Kaspersky and cannot see myself going back. Their mods are (being polite) 'not nice' or helpful and their software causes problems. They just manage to sort them our then they come out with another version and have to start again.

To everybody here - by helping to keep the place friendly.

    Here's to a malware and virus-free 2014.

    L'chaim, Na Zdorovie and cheers!

  12. Hello Roger,

it is a bit more complicated, but you can upgrade from v.6 to v.7, the older version will be automatically uninstalled.

Actually, the erroneously released v7 update also uninstalled the previous version (v7) automatically. ESET has got this upgrading well sorted out; unlike Kaspersky where the official line is that you CAN upgrade but all the mods on the forum strongly advise against it.

  13. I am not clear why there is an option for submitting a sample for analysis in the dialogue box I sent a 'shot of.

If they are geting lots of non-malicious files being sent in, it sounds like they need to tweak their detection algorithm :) .

The recommended way is more trouble than it is worth :D - especially if the AV is going to detect it every time I manipulate it.

  14. Do you have a screen shot of what the screen should look like to send something to the labs? I'd expect something on that box. I have tried to submit files to you, but I di what I can but am never sure if anythiung has been sent as I get no gonfirmation. If I do not have an easy way to send files or get confirmations...I might as well give up trying to help and I do NOT want to At ALL.

  15. Please see the attached screenshot. Is there a way to send the file to ESET from this dialogue box? Under the 'show advanced options' the option to send the file is ticked, but there is no indication that any file is sent.

This is very confusing so can somebody clarify if anything is sent or not from this box?

    TIA,

  16. All program's first run seems to be slow as the files are scanned and any future loading is at normal speed - I assume that a hash or something is stored for future use. There is at least one exception to this...PowerArchiver.

This does not happen and the program's authors have to submit each update to you to overcome the slow *continual* loading. A few days after that the issue seems to be resolved in an update until the next one.

Can this be fixed so they do not have to do this?

    Thanks

  17.

7.0.302.26 is now being pushed out via the internal update mechanism in NOD32. The update size (vs. the full installer) is about 20MB. That's more than an EULA update ... and if it were only EULA, it would not be pushed out en masse, correct? Any chance of a change log being released?

That is exactly what I thought. All that bandwidth for an EULA? No way.
