  1. We strongly recommend using automatic cleaning. Thing is that it's not always possible to display an alert window with action selection so in such case only access to a malicious file would be blocked but the file would stay intact on the disk.

Again, having been victimized by what amounted to false positives in the past (not by ESET, this is my first time using ESET), wherein critical system files were flagged and quarantined, I am very much in favor of not doing auto cleaning.

I am interested in hearing more about situations where "it's not always possible to display an alert window".  When would that be?

Also, I am using Sandboxie as my chief line of defense, and in all honesty, because of its strong capabilities, I don't have the same sense of urgency about AVs that I once had.

    Hello :)

Even though MBAM is designed to co-exist with an AV, its always a good idea and recommended to exclude ESET in MBAM, and MBAM in ESET. Or wich ever AV one happen to use with MBAM.

This post might come in handy: https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/150947-missing-mbam/?p=843114

    Hello SweX!

Thank you for posting the exclusion advice and the MBAM forum link.  Very helpful.

So far, I have had ZERO noticeable problems between the two, without resorting to exclusions.  But the operative word just might be "noticeable".

Even though all appears fine to me, the user, maybe there'll come a time when they will stumble over each other.

    Hard to say.

    Thanks again.

  3. Here are instructions on how to configure ESET NOD32 Antivirus to prompt you when it comes across a malicious object:

ESET Knowledgebase #910 "How do I change the scanner's default response to a virus detection?"

That particular KB article just shows how to make the change to the real-time scanner in ESET NOD32 Antivirus, but the same change can be repeated in the configuration options for on-demand scans, the startup scan, scanning email and so forth.

    Very helpful.  Thank you.

  4. I just installed ESET NOD32 on one W7 machine.  I will soon be putting it on a second computer as well.

I am learning how to configure the settings the way I prefer them.

My preference, whenever an AV finds malware, is that it asks me first what to do, rather than trying to clean it first.  I have been bitten by security programs with corrupted definitions that flag (and subsequently try to clean or quarantine) valid system files.  So I like the option to decide myself what the AV does with what it finds.

It looks to me like ESET does not auto clean items found during scans.  That's great.

But what about infected files found in real-time?  Or in email?  What is the default condition for ESET with those files?  And where is the setting for that?

    TY, I appreciate the assistance.

  5.

Thanks for the advice, fellas.  I think MBAM Premium will work okay, as they have designed the product to run with AVs.

Real-time proteciton of MBAM Pro is known to cause issues on Windows XP when ESET is installed and an external disk is connected to the computer.

    Thank you, Marcos.

As noted in the OP, I am installing ESET on a couple of W7 machines, so no worries... but that is exactly the sort of thing I was looking for.

Yes, I will definitely be uninstalling VIPRE, Tomo.

I mainly wanted to inquire to see if there are any known problems with other software, as is sometimes the case.

Sandboxie is a must have for me... I'll remove anything that does not co-exist with it, it's that important.

I'll post back if I have install or configuration questions.

    Thanks again.

  7. I'll soon be installing ESET NOD32 on a couple W7 machines.

Would like to find out in advance about any known issues/conflicts with other software.

I run Sandboxie, MBAMPro, Comodo FW.  This setup, along with VIPRE (soon to be uninstalled) has been running GREAT for quite a long time.

Only reason I am changing things around is my VIPRE subscription expires this month, and it's time to move on to a different AV.

I already have my ESET licenses.

    Thanks for any info.
