i will do a copy paste from a thread i created because my issues are a bit different.

I get an error 0x81000203 when trying to go to system/system protection. I don't see any drive letters in the list, and it just shows "scanning"

Sadly system restore was working for me with all versions untill i update Ess with a new version and reboot.

The problem is that it also messes with other services too. Just yesterday i received a windows update for defender definitions of 90MB. Meaning all cumulative since i installed ess.

Why is defender active again, i cant disable it from services as it is grayed out.... that is weird.

Also i am having bluetooth issues again (something i had earlier but didnt contribute to this issue)

It will disconnect randomly and wont connect by it self(mouse or headphones). Also i cant add any new BT devices to the system.

I have tried with the HIPS trick, alas no luck.

My restore fails with an error code, meaning i cant even start it, so i cant install for say ms office, because the installer makes auto system restore, and simpy FAILS when it gets to that part of the installation and rolls back all actions.

    Br,

Have you tried to perform the steps below yet in order to perform a system restore?

    EDIT: 04/23/15, 0225 PST

Disabling Self-defense (directly) - or disabling  Self-defense (indirectly) by disabling HIPS  - will permit an unimpeded system restore, provided one restarts the computer after disabling Self-defense.

    - Thank you Marcos for the reminder.

Tried it. I tried everything i could think of.

even clean uninstall. reinstall. I always end up with the said error, and other problems stated. Other then reinstalling the OS, i have found no solution.

Hi Moondoggie, have you tried the steps in this MS Community Post? I ask because the solution is for the same error and possibly same root cause after reading the different scenarios.

  3. I've been using ESET since around 2006.  I have always thought the Remote Administrator Console was rather simplistic, to the point, and functional.  It wasn't always what I would call  "pretty", but it worked and was easy to manuver.  Now I am testing Remote Administrator 6 and my opinion of ESET's RA Console has just about hit rock bottom.

First of all, the documentation is pretty vague, especially when it comes to pointing to a new repository.  Some sort of syntax or example of what needs to be in that field would be extremely helpful.  I would rather the 600+ computers download from a local server and not the Internet for agents, updates, etc.

I have not successfully deployed a single agent from the console regardless of any proxy settings on the console or my proxy server.  I was able to modify the agent installing BAT file and point it to a network location for grabbing the agent MSI file.  I shouldn't have to do this.  I should not have to jump through hoops to install a single agent.  If I wanted to do that I would have gone with Sophos back in 2006 when you had to manually create a self-extracting exe file with WinRAR and create custom scripts to install or upgrade their software.

Once I did get an agent installed (manually of course) I moved onto installing the EndPoint Security product.  Once again, documentation is vague (useless), but I was able to finally install the product using a local share path.  It was so much simpler in version 5.

Okay so I have an agent installed, a product installed...now I need to activate it.  Once again documentation is useless.  Reports are useless as they don't show any real details about the error messages.  I'm one of those admins that if I can look at a log, I'll figure it out.  I checked all the proxy settings multiple times, turned them off and allowed everything through, but I can't even get a single product activated.  I had to settle for manually activating it from the client, which is not going to work.  I'm not going to manually activate 600+ clients when the RA Console "should" do the job automatically.

I didn't care for having to recreate all our special policies.  It would have been nice to be able to migrate them from version 5.  I'd be okay losing some event logs for the sake of not having to recreate my policies from scratch, but I guess knowing what happened 6 months ago out-weighs that.

My experience with testing RA version 6 has been just a little above using McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (back when I used it).  My opinion is ESET fired the programmers that knew what they were doing  in version 5 and hired in a bunch of graphic artists to make version 6.  It's nice, I have to give them that, however it is anything but simplistic and functional.

I'm sorry for the rant.  I'm not one to toot my own horn, but I can usually figure stuff out pretty quick without a support call.  If I can't then OK let's call support, but at the same time I'm thinking maybe I need to be looking at a different product from a competitor.

    shawkins,

This type of feedback is very useful and we encourage it. You may have guessed that those of us who man the forums aren't developers, but rest assured that your communication about V6 will be delivered to not only the developers, but everyone beyond them in the chain of command. ESET is a huge proponent of customer experience and as a result we all have skin in the game. Again, your time in putting this post together is much appreciated.

  4. Hello anxious_tech (great name btw),

Our experience with performance issues after installing ANY antivirus is that it is installed over another security program, which will tax the system in multiple ways. I would suggest your first step be to check for any 3rd party AV programs. You can use our AV remover located here

  5. Hello heba,

I removed all the links except for the wikipedia link because linking in that fashion is against our forum rules for safety reasons. I am approving the post because the content is relative to our interests and I believe people might benefit from the insights shared by our intelligent forum members.

  6. hello,

i totaly agree that eset doesn't provide any support on third party msi installation, but this feature is really important for me !

i tryed using the hxxp:// link as if i installed an eset package.

    and tduffy

We hear you loud and clear. Taking your feedback up the chain is another function of this forum. Thank you for taking the time to express how you feel it really helps us improve the product!

  7. Hello um_user,

As we understand it, this issue was taken care of directly by a member of our Sales management team, is this correct? We sincerely apologize for the delay in responding to you but rest assured that we hear your frustration and have communicated your experience with the relevant groups in order to improve the customer experience. It appears that you received a call back from management shortly after you posted here on the forums. Would you say the issue is resolved at this point? Please let us know.

    Hello,

Can you please confirm that you did the following?" Right-click the cmd application when it appears in results and select Run as administrator from the context menu".

    Thank you.

  9. I have the same problem someone described last February. I bought my computer from MicroCenter, and they installed ESET while making another upgrade I purchased the day I bought the computer. There was a problem which required them the next day to refresh the original HP image and they installed ESET again. When I got home, it said the product was not activated, and would not take the User Key because "jt had been used too many times" or the like. I hadn't installed the program, nor received a user name and password. The program had all of my information when I tried to install with the key.

I went twice to the page at which you could give your email to get your user name and password, but I have received no reply from ESET. I hope that a moderator can help the way one helped the guy back in February on this forum with the same problem.

I show that we replied to your support request on 11/13/2014 and included your username and password. Can you please confirm?

    Hello tmuster2k

    Try /unwanted

Also take a look at our ESET Command Line Scanner Parameters article for more info.

the install won't even start when you add that command of   /unwanted

My apologies tmuster2k I misunderstood you. Are you using remote administrator?

Yes. Home version only .. ESS and Nod32 is not a business product.

Just thought I'd ask just in case (you never know). I agree with RugK that ideally you would be using our business products for this but if that isn't an option I would try what RugK has suggested while we work on getting you a definitive answer. This is a GREAT question by the way and we appreciate you working with us.

  11. I would like to say for the record that the fact an image was blocked does not mean it wasn't dangerous. It is quite commonly known that malware can and has been distributed using obfuscated PNG files. I just want to make it clear to those that stumble upon this thread.
