  1. 1 filter on and out only works when the scan is done, not during it. 2 I don't have the testing version obviously so in the meantime this is how it looks: So, the actionable window is not resizable while asking the user to act on a threat, and the other window doesn't allow for a detailed understanding of what's going on. I am glad the next version might have it. I also have issues with the banking module. It simply sends me to a FAQ section of ESET suggesting fixes that don't work. IT doesn't seem to be compatible with my bank in Taiwan.
  2. Hi, I ran a scan on two huge hard disks over the last two days (it's still going on). However, i noticed two main issues in how EIS categorizes threats and how the UI shows them, making it really complicated to understand what is what. In particular, i noticed two problems: 1) The list of the threats as they are found, identifies a lot of files, like files ESET couldn't access, other files with damaged archives as a generic classification of "THREAT". 2) To add up to the issue, the windows showing them often are not resizable. This means that it is not possible to clearly understand what the threat is. Now, i am pretty sure that ESET will say that there is a way to access a log/report after the scan is done. However, even if so, in case of long scans, people shouldn't be forced to wait for two or three days to see what the threats are (that's how long the scan has been going on to date. Please see screenshots attached. In my experience, with most other AV suites i tried, threats are categorized clearly, with a prioritization of what the AV considers as a serious threat compared to potential threats. They are also visualized in a clear way in the best designed suites. I do not think it is the case in this specific occurrence. I am posting this because after several scans i find it really annoying and offputting. Especially if a user doesn't have so much time to devote to threat analysis (which is a job by itself). In particular: How can i apply a solution if i can't even see what the window is showing and have some insights on the threat?
  3. I am not sure whether any antivirus/security suite with parental controls can block Google's native apps in Android. That said, Chrome has a solution for parental controls on Android: https://www.spyzie.com/parental-controls/parental-control-on-google-chrome.html The other suggestion i can provide is to look for a different browser with better parental controls and remove or disable Chrome (that can be done on recent Android devices and then use any sort of security suite allowing parental controls to lock or block unwanted apps opening or installing/uninstalling. I know i have disabled a lot of apps to increase Android's privacy for myself. These include also a lot of Google apps, Facebook and others. You can also set the search filter on strict mode (for example DuckDuckGo browser and others have it) and that won't show any strange results when you make searches.
  4. Today ESET got this on what seems to be a coin miner on what seemed a perfectly legit website on wines. Interesting finding, provided it's not a false positive.
  5. Eset China sells EIT for 3 years 3 devices. I bought it.
  6. Today i bought my ESET license for EIS (3 years, 3 devices). I would like to take this opportunity to express some perplexities on the procedure. A) The strange feeling starts while clicking on any well designed ESET portal from the West and being redirected to the scantily designed one in Chinese. Less offers, less choice, scarce descriptions, no discounts and so forth. B) English option is available but by default the page opens in Chinese. Many foreigners live in Asia, not all of them speak Chinese. If someone is in a hurry, it is hard to see that small language option on the right top (I missed it a few times while checking). C) The whole portal in Chinese (my understanding is that it is based in Hong Kong) looks really like a scam. I would suggest a proper redesign in line with the ESET standards. D) During the payment process the user is redirected to a set of local banking websites that are entirely in Chinese, no English available. Again, since we are inserting personal data and essentially signing a contract, it would be appropriate for ESET to make sure that the banks they use do offer English while proceeding. I had many doubts while finalizing my purchase. E) The whole set of pages (always in Chinese) ESET opens once payment is done is, again, misleading. Can't you just open 1 page (In English or offering such choice) with both serial number, product quick guide/user manual and the rest in a single package that is duplicated both on the web (saved as both webpage or screenshot) and as a mail? F) A word on support in Hong Kong and how the portal works. I have been testing EIS for months (i had to do a lot of tricks to have multiple 30 days tests, another thing i find humiliating as a user. Sometimes a month is not enough, ESET must have realized as they offered one extra month on my mobile, without me asking, for a variety of reasons i assume). The first problem i had was in picking the right suite. Multi-device and EIS are essentially the same. So why not just say that EIS can also go on mobiles and remove one option? When i asked the Asian support, language barriers made things more complicated. Their answers were very quick compared to any other AV seller; they were also very professional in replying. But the language barrier caused a lot of issues on my side (and i do speak Chinese but typing slow i preferred to use English). G) Discounts and offers should reflect in the Asian portal. It is disappointing for example to click on an offer or on a coupon offering a discount on a product to then be redirected to an Asian portal where none of those offers is valid. It may eventually end up by causing customer churn. Suggestions: - Standardize the user experience across all portals - Add English language during the whole purchasing process - Add a clear option for English in the main portal for Asia (can you do in such a way that the portal detects the language of the browser being used and automatically sets itself for that language or at least asks the user?). - Support in Asia is by far superior than other AV sellers. Yet at times the language barrier affects undersanding and answers might not be really spot on. This is not really a complaint as i got what i needed to understand in the end. I believe these improvements can contribute to really change the user experience in the portals for the better Happy New Year.
  7. Those and the firewall notifications. At times the very same notification even if you tell the firewall to setup the rule as permanent. Very offputting.
  8. If i may. I have asked similar questions before but i'd like to point out a few things. Before pointing them out i'd like to say that i used KIS for over 10 years, maybe 15 year before having to remove it. a) When the others claim that there is no 100% detection they are not saying that other suites did not catch 100% of the threats "in a given snapshot of reality and time". They are saying that the threats used for the test do not represent the totality of the threats available and the thousands of daily variants coming out on the market daily. This means that different tests in different times will advantage a product on another. b) Point A is empirically testable through AV-Comparatives. If you go check on CHARTS in AV-comparatives you'll have a chance to see detection rates by month. So, if you change the month from July-November to "November", you will get a 99,6% (See attached picture). Now, i invite you to go check the results for both Kaspersky and BitDefender and compare the detection rates for November 2018. You will notice that they both went down a bit and ESET went up a bit. Why do you keep mentioning August if we are in December? AV-Comparatives issues new data monthly, so do many others. c) In November-July ESET gets 2 stars based on weighed data on its past performances (for the purpose of these tests on AV not always shiny to be honest, for the reasons that others have already highlighted). But it does not mean that it is performing poorly in absolute terms. In November, it performs very well for this specific indicator. d) If you go check other AV labs, you will notice that ESET gets different scores, but it's rarely outside the best ones, despite its strange habit of going up and down the rankings. e) I believe MARCOS' statements on what ESET is going to do in the future is exactly what users are expecting to see in the suite in the future. So, if your worry is about detection in the future the answer is, i believe, the below: " In v12.1 beta we've enabled HIPS-based Behavior Monitor and Augur is going to be added over the course of 2019. Besides that, we'll continue improving protection and cleaning both through existing modules and will release product updates with new features, bug fixes and improvements as well." From what i am seeing ESET does not have a real security problem. It has a "quality consistency" problem that translates in "spikes" of highs and lows that other competitors don't have or have only on very narrow deadbands and this makes the product look a bit shaky". Again i believe the solution lies in what MARCOS has anticipated, if it is well implemented. That said, I hope MARCOS' projections on future improvements become reality as soon as possible because from a corporate perspective might not seem such a big thing but for users who want to see that little gap "consistenly filled and coherent performances" (see the graphs on AV-comparatives to see how ESET keeps going up and down the hill) is a very welcome news.
  9. I am really glad to know that you are a very efficient user. But my post is aimed at understanding whether i can use ESET as a daily security driver in a pretty unfriendly environment. I can't use you as my antivirus. And sometimes it's not a matter of you being "efficient", rather a matter of surrounding environment being hostile, or you getting unwanted attentions. But i am glad that you let us know that you are a virtuous user. Merry Christmas.
  10. Hello, I am a new member of the ESET SF and i am testing a couple of AV suites after leaving KIS for various reasons. I premise i do not mean to provoke or stir any harsh debate and that my questions are genuinely security related. For a variety of reasons i need a genuinely safe AV suite. I am prone to get ESET because it allows for a very high granularity of customization but some of the tests i am seeing and the answers i get are not very convincing. I am aware that there is no such a thing as a 100% safe AV and i am aware of the fact that users should have a backup but those observations are not providing answers to key questions. In particular, my curiosity focuses on the following questions: 1) ESET seems to let some threats pass through when other suites do not. What could a possible explanation for this be? The gossip is that "ESET does not have real zero day malware protection" (That would be LiveGRID). Others claim that the HIPS firewall is too complicated to use and not entirely automated (I find it pretty easy to use, especially considering ESET directions on how to tweak it are fairly clear). I have gone through all of the posts in this and other forums and i do not seem to find a satisfactory answer. Some users are on the "emotional" side. Responses from ESET are not really convincing. 2) Is ESET planning for changes in future versions of the suite aimed at filling those gaps emerging from these various tests (AV comparatives indicates a slight decrease in efficiency as well), or the theory is still that the suit is fine and that, from ESET's perspective, there is no need for specific changes? I would like to buy a 3 years subscription knowing that, in principle, the situation will improve, rather than worsen as it is now. 3) I have tweaked ESET according to ESET's directions (this includes manual HIPS rules, with the sole change done being duplication of those rules for Office 2013 and 2016). If i were to run the same tests we have seen around, would my PC be protected or those threats would still pass through the protection? I have to reiterate i am overall happy about the suite (except for the flood of notifications from the firewall that often hinder productivity and the slow scans), so this is not a complaint or a negative review. I am extremely impressed at how fast the PC runs with ESET in, but i am less convinced by the detection rates and the capacity to stop zero-day threats and malware (based on official and non official reviews, with the software working with default settings and a bit tweaked). Rather an hope to see a professional feedback from ESET people that is not a "marketing mitigating" statements, but a rational, structured answer. Thanks in advance Rick
