  1. I set the firewall to allow the three Wreckfest ports both directions with UDP/TCP and now it works. Thanks for your input, it's greatly appreciated.
  2. Thank you for the quick response. I am looking at the Rules section now and have found two entries for Wreckfest. It was only allowing communications In, but not Out on one of the three ports the server needs. I edited it to allow In/Out on all three ports that the server needs. That may be my issue. I will test it tonight when I have a friend online that can check the server's visibility for me.

  4. Yes, that would work, but it's kind of clunky. It would be far better to be able to type in the app name and block before installation. I would only know after the fact that my daughter installed and used an app we don't approve of. Thank you for the quick response.
  5. I wrote to ESET tech support, but the answer given to my issue had nothing to do with the actual issue I was asking about, so... From within the game Wreckfest (Steam) I can host a game with no issues with ESET Internet Security v14.0.22.0 but if I try to run Wreckfest's dedicated server (separate from the game itself), no one can see my game online unless I disable ESET's firewall. I have already tried putting ESET into interactive mode and given the dedicated server permission, but it still blocks it. How/Where can I see a list of programs that ESET's firewall is allowing/blocking so that I can set it up to allow the dedicated server to pass through instead of blocking it? BTW, I explained the exact same issue to ESET tech support and was referred to an article on how to stop certain programs from being detected in a virus scan. A worthless answer. Thank you! Bill
  6. I don't see any way of blocking an app from being installed on my daughter's Android phone beforehand. The list of apps to block or allow only seems to pertain to apps already installed on the phone. How can I block access to TikTok via the web or from being installed from the app store without blocking the entire app store altogether?
  7. Um, SZT is not asking about blocking YouTube altogether, but rather blocking specific, objectionable content. I would like to be able to do this too. Not everything on YouTube is garbage, but there are filthy videos and language in many.
  8. I just installed the premium version of ESET's Parental Control app on my daughter's Android phone. The problem is, I changed the password on my ESET account on our main computer because she knows the old password, but the Parental Control app on her phone is still using the old password, so she can disable or change the parental controls on the phone at will! I see no option to change the password via the app and it is not being updated to the password change I made online via the main computer at home.

OK, I see the same settings as you do now and they are enabled just like yours, but according to the Shields Up! web site: "Ping Reply: RECEIVED (FAILED) — Your system REPLIED to our Ping (ICMP Echo) requests, making it visible on the Internet. Most personal firewalls can be configured to block, drop, and ignore such ping requests in order to better hide systems from hackers. This is highly recommended since "Ping" is among the oldest and most common methods used to locate systems prior to further exploitation." I can't find any setting specific to this in my new router, unlike the one contained in my old Netgear router. I don't know how to kill this system from responding as it used to under my old router settings. ESET doesn't seem to be doing anything here. Is it the router itself responding? I'm not an expert at this by any means.

  12. Yes, but the problem with this new router from the fiber service is that it doesn't seem to have a mechanism to block ICMP (ping) requests. It responds to them. My Netgear router for cable had that option in plain sight.
  13. This is what I thought too, but when I go to https://www.grc.com/ and run the Shields Up test for Common Ports, it says my system is responding to Ping requests. On my old router I could turn off Allow Incoming Ping Requests, but on the new router I have I can't find a similar setting. ESET is allowing my system to respond, as is the new router.

  15. If you want that the emails (which are accessed via SSL/TLS) will be scanned then you have to enable the SSL/TLS scanning in ESS. Yes, I had that enabled in the past, but Thunderbird kept repeatedly asking me to accept the certificate from Yahoo's Mail Plus system. I just enabled it again and, so far, it hasn't asked me to accept the certificate multiple times as it did before.
  16. When I perform an on-demand scan and a suspicious Email is found in my Email dir, ESET deletes said Email from the hard drive. That was where the indexing issues arose and messed up Emails with one subject, but the body of another message, etc. If I quit Thunderbird and restart it, the indexing seems to be fine again and the Emails look OK. Thunderbird accesses my Email this way: ========== Thunderbird accesses Yahoo mail via a POP server: plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com Port: 995 Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication: Normal Password ========== I have not excluded Thunderbird from protocol scanning. I am using these settings within ESET: Enable IMAP checking Enable POP3 checking (which includes the ghosted POP3S protocol checking for selected ports (995))
  17. Then I won't have any scanning of Emails at all. Earlier in the thread I mentioned POP3S being used with yahoo mail and Thunderbird, but it didn't seem like anyone wanted me to use protocol scanning either. Please see earlier posts in this thread, if you have the time. Thanks!
  18. You might try a reboot, and wait 15min before doing your daily on-demand scan- This allows windows to release all files... This cuts several minutes off my on-demand scan times. I also do a no-activity reboot at the end of the day, and wait 45min before shutdown. My system comes up Much faster after cold startup, but sometimes I have to reboot after waiting 35min before browsers... work correctly? This isn't just with my ESS v8, but also with my old KIS2014- I feel it may have something to do with Trusting changes...? My system is set to come out of Sleep mode at 12:30 AM. ESET is set to start its scan at 12:35 AM. There was a time where if I set ESET to scan at 12:31 AM it would never start. For whatever reason, it needs that idle time before it will automatically start its daily scan. The Emails only get messed up if ESET deletes one of them during the scan; otherwise, Emails never get messed up. I found that turning Thunderbird off and then back on after an Email is deleted by ESET seems to force it to re-index everything. It worked once and I will wait until it messes things up again and see if it works the second time.
  19. Today I set ESET 8 to auto-clean while scanning. It found and deleted three Emails from one of my accounts in Thunderbird. The Inbox for that account was now scrambled, as described earlier in this thread. I copied the entire folder from the corrupted account to a second location and then started deleting personal Emails from the original folder so that I could send it in for inspection by Marcos. After deleting a ton of personal Emails, but leaving the scrambled ones intact, I closed and restarted Thunderbird. All of the corrupted Emails were now fixed! I am assuming that Thunderbird somehow knows how to re-index the folder after those Emails were deleted by ESET 8. I never bothered to try this, to my recollection, because my computer is in Sleep mode when not in use and I rarely restart Thunderbird. The only thing different now than earlier when I started this thread is that I upgraded from ESET 7 to 8. Maybe this is a fluke, but I will try this method again if a folder gets corrupted in a subsequent scan.
  20. That sounds like a good possibility for what's going on when Emails have the correct sender and subject, but the body is all messed up. Would the setting: Email Client Protection / Special Settings / Disable Checking Upon Inbox Content Change make any difference if I enabled it?
  21. Normally the emails should be scanned through the protocol filtering. But as you said there are sometimes some alerts on the on-demand-scan, but not on the protocol filtering, so maybe there is an issue. (or that is just the thing that corrupts the emails - a false positive?) Back to the protocol filtering... should I go back to that? I don't believe it was ever implemented correctly on my side since I didn't have ESET set to filter SSL. ========== Thunderbird accesses Yahoo mail via a POP server: plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com Port: 995 Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication: Normal Password ========== So, should I go back and set Protocol Filtering / SSL / Always Scan SSL Protocol?   22. I will continue to scan the Email directory and when I get some corrupted Emails, I will make a copy of the Inbox files. Next, I will delete all Emails that aren't corrupted and only leave the corrupted one(s) to forward to you. Does that sound like a plan? If I disable scanning then what good is that other than not potentially corrupting some of them? I will still be open to bad Emails coming through, right?
