  1. Thanks gentlemen. Can I install ESET 10 over ESET 9 without uninstalling? If I have to uninstall 9 first, how do I keep my configurations?
  2. Thank you. I tried to install v10 not too many days ago, and I saw something to the effect that it was not available for XP. Was I wrong in that? So you think that one of the files on my system was causing the problem? In the detections I see such things as: "archive damaged - the file could not be extracted", "error reading archive", "unpack error", "error - password-protected file", "error opening", "error - unknown compression method", "DOTNETREACTOR - unsupported option", and " ENIGMA - unsupported option". Could you explain these? I looked for a place in the help life that explained such things but could not find it.
  3. Last night I initiated a scan of my 500 GB Touro external hard drive, which I use as a desktop and the chief storage site on my system. I did the scan on the Removable Media scan module. The progress I saw in the morning seemed to indicate a relatively rapid scan compared to what I've seen with other scanners. But when I checked in the afternoon, the scan was stalled. The line at the top goes all the way across as though it's completed, but all indications otherwise are that it's not completed. It has settled down on one particular short PDF and not moved beyond it. The icon in the system tray shows "Computer scan in progress", but as I said the scan is still stuck on the same PDF it was on 8 hours ago and is showing no signs of further progress. I tried resetting the two ESET processes to Realtime priority, but the scan hasn't budged. I clicked on Pause to see if doing Pause and then Resume would jump-start things for me. After over two hours ago it still said "Waiting to pause scan." I tried clicking on "Stop". Since then it has been stuck for many hours on "Waiting to complete scan". The "Stop" and "Pause" buttons still show at the bottom, not any "Resume" button. I am not able to act on the detections, which appear to be false positives. I am shocked by this. I have used many scanners and never had them quit on me before the scan was finished, except Malwarebytes free, whose GUI would disappear on me. 4. Today has been a rough day with flooding in my house that I thought I had found the solution for. And I am being prevented from typing into most of my applications. I can't type into Outlook Express, the Find module of Autoruns, Firefox browser, or Slimjet browser. I can type into Wordpad and Maxthon browser. This is a grievous hindrance to my use of the computer obviously. I just installed Smart Security for the first time on April 4. I can't prove in a court of law that it's ESET, but I have never lost use of my keyboard and been unable to regain it after rebooting. I have rebooted numerous times, and I continue to have this block on most of what I try to do on my keyboard. I suspect the ESET firewall, but I'm not sure. I have found it to be very aggressive. I have been running it on Interactive at a Malware Tips' member's suggestion. I just now changed it back to Automatic, but that didn't make any difference. I don't know how to get inside ESET and stop it from doing things I don't want it doing. It frustrates me that I can't just turn ESET off. I can either pause the antivirus or the firewall but not both. I also have a problem in that the Smart Security icon does not appear in the system tray at startup. I have to go into Windows Explorer to make the GUI appear. When it does appear, sometimes it reveals a number of notifications that have been backed up. 5. Greetings from conceptualclarity. I have had ESET Smart Security 9.0.375.0 installed since the Sunday night before last, technically April 4. i found the forum from the backside of the case for my ESET disk. I am a published author. I would call myself an intermediate-level computer user. My start with ESET has been rocky. I'll be dealing with that elsewhere on the forum.
