Also having the same problem with EES v8.1.6.0 and an apple silicon macbook. As above any combination of trying to exclude the ports or the gradle "application" within the preferences configurable locally it's not possible to get gradle working. Disabling the firewall and such additionally didn't help as with the others. The only half working workaround is to disable the daemon globally for gradle as described by gradle: https://docs.gradle.org/current/userguide/gradle_daemon.html#sec:disabling_the_daemon Unit tests with Junit somehow stop working without a daemon ( at least for me ) but at least the assemble and compilation works with that.
