  1. Hi all

With the massive increase in complexity with the version 6 infrastructure, I am seeking some guidance please on how to deploy everything.

    Here's the scenario:

I'm acting as an IT support role, supporting seven customer all with a local install of ERAS/ERAC version 5. To manage and deploy ESET I simply RDP onto the customers' servers and launch ERAC. The local install is on SBS2011 boxes and works fine, but as we know that's not likely to be an option for version 6. We always download definitions from ESET; no local mirrors. And finally, all clients check in to ERAS every 5 minutes using two server definitions, a local one (for the desktops and when the laptops are in the office) and a FQDN (across the internet) for the laptops are away. They connect to a port (35000) which redirects to 2222 in our firewall.

We've never used (or even installed) the web admin. We use ERAC exclusively.

For version 6 there seems to be a myriad different components, with Apache, Tomcat, SQL, MySql, Agents, RD Sensor, Proxies - lots more things than in V5.

All the servers are SBS 2011, so running Hyper-V is not an option. And all the customers are fairly small businesses, so a second server is also not an option.

Is it feasible/practical/sensible to install the version 6 stack on a HyperV server in my office? What would be the implications of doing this, and what fucntionality would be affected? All communication would be across the internet. What will happen with software deployment to the clients, will each client try to download software (60MB+ for v5 EAV) from my server here or will they download from ESET's servers? What about definitions too? Also, my server would be in a workgroup (or maybe a domain) but certainly not a domain related to (or trusted by) any of the customers' domains? Also, what about ESET licenses? All my customers have different licenses, will that be a problem if I have a single ESET "repository" in our office here?

It seems that hosting the ESET v6 stack at the customer is not an option due to the server requirements, as the v6 stack looks like it will add far more burdon to the SBS servers than v5. But we host the v5 stack at each customer quite happily. So we need to find a workable solution for v6 if we're to use v6.

In total, I think it's 159 licenses across the customers.

Oh, and finally....if we *were* to install the v6 Server component onto the SBS boxes, can we expect any problems? For example, the install guide shows that port 443 is used for the web console. 443 is already in use in SBS2011 for various things. Will the installer add a separate application in IIS so that ERA will co-exist?

Many thanks in advance. SBS can be "broken" very easily, and we don't want to break it!

  2. Thanks, but what if we do not have another SQL Server? We have one server - SBS - and that is all. We don't really want to install MySQL as we don't know anything about MySQL.

Are you saying we should stick with V4 until our 160 license expires and then move to a different AV solution?

  3. Hi

I'm interested to read that ERA 6 and Endpoint 6 are around the corner, but I'm concerned re: SQL support.

You say that "SQL Express can't be installed on a DC". I support six SBS 2011 instances, and all have existing "SQL Instances" in the form of Windows Internal Database. All standard SBS 2011 servers have this, with a minimum of one instance for SharePoint Foundation and one instance for WSUS.

A separate SQL installation isn't an option for us, nor is a separate server. And we don't really want to go down the route of MySQL as we don't know it.

Will Windows Internal Database support be forthcoming please, with installation on a DC just like the standard SBS databases?

160 licenses hanging in the balance here.....and it's already bad enough that we need to reconfigure everything from scratch.

    Many thanks

  4. We use notifications from the servers without difficulty. We use it primarily for "new client" notifications - if we see that a client hasn't connected for a few weeks it could be a dead laptop, so we delete it. But it's useful to get notification if the client reconnects.

I don't think we use SSL but we do use authentication. We've set up a second listener on our Exchange on a different port and we connect to that.

  5. Sure. If you have 5.0.119 installed and you want to upgrade to 5.1.34, the screenshots and steps are all wrong. What happens is this:

    Accept license terms

    Choose Typical install

Browse for license code (e.g. like a clean install)

Choose server passwords (e.g. like a clean install)

    Choose to install

(you may also get a screen saying port 443 is in use, which on our server it is; we entered a different port).

    The upgrade proceeds.

In other words, there is NO migration Settings screen as shown in the KB article. This led me to believe that a clean install was in progress and ERAS Insatller had not detected my existing settings.

  6. Hi Peter

I have 5.0.119. I have tried to upgrade ERAS to 5.1.34 on no less than FIVE servers and all do not detect 5.0.119. That was my first thought - upgrade ERAS/ERAC - but even that won't work.

I've raised support tickets but the confirmation email helpfully gives no reference number. I've also posted details of the problem into the remote admin forum.

    Jim

PS 120 clients across 5 servers - no way I'm doing it manually :-)

  7. Hello,

I cannot upgrade ERAS 5.0.119 to 5.1.34 following these notes: hxxp://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN2439

After choose "Default" I am not offered to migrate settings, I am instead prompted for license file, passwords etc, and then I am told the ports are in use (clearly they are in use - by 5.0.119).

I've tried this on five separate servers now.

  8. Hi

I've tried to deploy this to five clients from five servers (ERAC "Remote Install" > "Upgrade Windows Client") and every one has returned  "No upgrade for this client". The clients are all on 5.0.2126 or 5.0.2214.

I'll raise a formal support ticket, but wanted to give a headsup here.

    Jim

  9. Could you describe what part is not compatible please? I'm using ESET endpoint 5 on win 8.1 and it seems fine.....but what are the risks of me doing so? Am I protected? Am I risking system instability?

To say that it is not compatible suggests you know of a reason, would you mind posting details please?

    Many thanks,

    Jim

  10. Hi

One of the websites I manage links to this page:

    hxxp://www.360pix.co.uk/tours/ros scoproperties/grangelanetradepark/

If you open that page in Firefox, you get no warning. if you open it in IE10 the page is blocked with a "JS/Iframe.IB trojan" warning. If you close the IE10 browser, re-open it, and visit the same page, it plays fine with no warning.

    EAVBE 5.0.2126.0, defs 8362.

is it a rogue message showing in IE10? Or is there a reason why Firefox isn't detecting it?

    Many thanks

    Jim

EDIT Oops, wrong forum. Should be in the EAVBE / Endpoint forum.
