A reboot seem to fix it this, or maybe the distribution was updated with the fix. in any case things are much better after a reboot.

After update on October 14 2024, ESET is consuming 20-30 % CPU constantly, driving total cpu use to 100%. Rolling back the update resolves this issue. Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.19045.5011], AMD FX-8320, 32 GB RAM.
