ERA and Shared Local Cache in one Server

Hello,

 

I'm just installing the Share Local Cache Server and was wondering if it's possible to install both applications ERA and Share Local Cache onto one Server?

Hello, this is theoretically possible, but It would require some manual work.

 

First, you have to install ERA 6 on Linux (CentOS 6.6, as that one is tested with ESLC) manually. To do that, follow the instructions here: hxxp://help.eset.com/era_install/64/en-US/index.html?installation_linux.htm

ESET Shared Local cache, is besides the appliance available also as a binary file https://www.eset.com/int/business/server-antivirus/shared-local-cache/#downloadwhich means, you can install it on the same machine.

 

I will also check with the developers, if it is theoretically possible, to install ESLC into the ERA Appliance on Linux (this was not tested, AFAIK).

 

Just out of curiosity, why you would like to do that?

well we've got already ERA 6 running on a VM. I just thought I could simply add the Shared Local Cache to it. I will install it on a new machine, so the question is actually not necessary anymore.

 

But yesterday I configured our ESET policies and saw that the ESET Mail Security had the option to connect to a Shared Local Cache, I couldn't find the same option at the ESET File Security settings. Does this mean that ESET File Security isn't compatible to Shared Local Cache?

ESET File Security is compatible with ESLC (as it shares the same codebase with Mail Security). You have to install version 6.

Well I've installed the version 6, I'll just try it out 

 

Edit:

Okay I've installed everything. Now I've got a different problem. I can't get my ESLC running, it keeps saying that it failed to apply VM parameters.

 

Maybe it is because I'm running it on a Hyper-V Host?

Original ESLC is compatible only with VMware vIrtualization solutions. In order to use it on Hyper-V you have to install a Linux distribution and then an ESLC package which is as well available for download. There will be a new version of appliance published in few weeks, which will be natively compatible with Hyper-V.
