Not seeing scan results window with "no cleaning" set

Description:  Provide scan results window with options for separate action on each threat.

Detail:  I'm very surprised this isn't provided.  It seems like a basic function for AV programs.  I prefer to review the threat results and decide on action rather than have action taken automatically on every threat.

I contacted support and was told I could either take the log results and use explorer to find each file and right click to deal with it.  Or to let EAV take action which I could undo from within the quarantine!

This may be a deal breaker for me.  Am I and support missing something here?

This has always been possible. Just edit the appropriate scan profile and in the ThreatSense parameters setup change Cleaning level from Standard to "No cleaning".

Unless I am missing another setting, this doesn't work.  All I get at the end of the scan is a log.  No action on the threats can be taken from the log.  I emailed support and was told that it was not possible to have a results window popup after the scan with actions to take when no cleaning is selected.  Please prove me (and them) wrong!

Move this to a new thread if more appropriate than this one.

Ok, I uninstalled, rebooted and re-installed as administrator with minimal stuff running.  Updated and only changed all of the cleaning level settings to "no cleaning".  Rebooted.  It is now running its first scan.  I am not opening the gui to watch progress at all and will see what happens at the end of the scan.

The first-time scan uses hardcoded settings. So stop the scan, edit the scan profile you will use for scanning and change the cleaning level to "No cleaning". At the end of scans you should be prompted for an action. For me it worked like a charm.

If you'd like to discuss this further, copy your original post and create a new topic. I will move the recent discussion there then.

(Moving from the pinned "Future Changes" thread -  I will wait for you to move the other posts here before updating - thanks Marco!)

Unfortunately, there's a glitch with this forum system when moving posts to an existing topic. Your initial post now appears as the last (#4).

As for the issue discussed above, please drop me a pm with the output from ESET Log Collector as per the instructions at hxxp://support.eset.sk/kb3466/which might shed more light.

Marcos,

Solved (mostly)!

I discovered something interesting.  I've been using a custom on demand scan with either smart scan or in-depth scan and no cleaning checked.  The scan results do not pop-up (there is only the log).

However, when I tried the "Scan Your Computer" (first option on the "computer scan" screen) that says "scan all local disks and clean threats" the results window does come up at the end.  Even though the menu item says it will clean threats, it doesn't evidently since I have "no cleaning" selected in all the threatsense parameters.

Since the threatsense option of no cleaning overrode the scan that said it would clean, I thought that maybe I didn't need to check the box that said no cleaning and the threatsense option would prevail.  So I ran a custom scan and left the no cleaning box unchecked and, lo and behold!, the scan results came up after completion.

Whew!  So I guess I've figured out how to get EAV to get closer to how I would like to use it.  It would be nice if the action options in the results window provided "add to exclusions" instead of just delete, clean, ignore, etc.  But, at least that doesn't make for a "deal breaker" for me.

The menus need some work to make this clearer.  I am not an expert, but by no means a neophyte, and it sure confused/mislead me.

I don't know if you are ESET staff or an expert volunteer.  Would I need to provide this feedback directly to ESET in some way, or does this reach them sufficiently?  I would also be glad to be a "usability guinea pig" if ESET does want to do something about this.

Thanks very much for your willingness to help.  I might not have dug deeper if you hadn't.
