jerhu 0 Posted April 25, 2016 Share Posted April 25, 2016 On a fresh install of nod32 antivirus 4.0.81.0 on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, I first set Apparmor to "complain" mode for all profiles and then went through the instructions in the ESET KB article 3723 to create an eset.service file under /lib/systemd/system and start service using systemctl: hxxp://support.eset.com/kb3723/?locale=en_US However, now I'm seeing multiple version update messages from esets_gui, and syslog is filled with messages from esets_gui, esets_daemon, systemd, and others: warning: Cannot read from socket: Resource temporarily unavailable error: Cannot get setup from daemon: Daemon closed connection (I also notice that /opt/eset/esets/lib/esets_mac is running in its own PID. Should that be?) ...along with multiple network freezes. Other info from the NOD32 about dialog: Module Version Update 1062 AV and Antispyware scanner 1482 Virus sig db 13389 archive supp 1248 adv heuristics 1168 cleaner 1120 System info: Linux 4.4.0-21-generic (64-bit) #37-Ubuntu SMP Mon Apr 18 18:33:37 UTC 2016 Intel® Core i7-5600U CPU Any way to correct permissions, or maybe install a development build to correct the freeze issues? Plenty of "socket read" errors in syslog. OS (a virt. machine) poorly responsible. Got rid of these problems by uninstalling NOD32 for Linux. Since that removal no AV solution installed till now. Scoony 0 Posted October 11, 2016 Share Posted October 11, 2016 (edited) Dear friend, I've installed NOD32 for linux too and it's hell on my server too... they didn't reply to my ticket (sent thru the app) and I'm not sure why they set this forum cause they don't replay at all. You either need AppArmor or NOD32, not both. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AppArmor#Disable_AppArmor_framework Also see this post, which explains why you need to change NOD32's default configuration, as it's too pervasive. My advice is that if you're running a purely Linux environment, then you should use one of the native Linux security models, not an antivirus product. The main point of running AV on Linux is as a gateway to insecure systems like Windows, or as a means of recovering them, not as an alternative to Linux security, which is already more advanced than any AV out there. Download from ESET Mark it as "Executable" Install the library libc6 32bit, with sudo apt install libc6:i386 It is critical to use it like this with : , not like described here hxxp://support.eset.com/kb5827/2 with - between libc6 and i386. Installing it with - causes the system to freeze. Double click the downloaded file and install it. Restart and activate. To start it from the Systray-Icon, just click on the icon. To start it from the menu, change the Exec line in /usr/share/applications/eset-esets_gui.desktop to Exec=/opt/eset/esets/lib/esets_clean.sh now it's working normaly without errors and freezes!
