Hello,

Activation task works in a way, that it tries to reach "edf.eset.com" upon activation (if you execute a standard activation task from ESET Remote Administrator).

Therefore you are correct, that internet connectivity (either direct, or via proxy (which is configured in advanced settings of ESET Endpoint Antivirus / Security => Open ESET GUI, Press F5 => Navigate to "TOOLS" => Open sub-menu "Proxy Server and configure your proxy server settings)) is needed on clients. You can configure proxy server also via ERA policy. If you would like to use it for updates, you need to configure also proxy server settings for updater.

If your client is completely offline, you can alternatively utilize "activation using offline license file", however in this case, you have to make sure to disallow communication of such device to edf.eset.com, as if such client reaches our licensing servers, it would disable you the option to generate / edit offline license files using ESET Lincese Administrator portal ( For more details about this process please refer to ESET License Administrator documentation:

If we have enabled the proxy then is necessary for the client machine to have INTERNET connectivity ???

Machine should be allowed to access the addresses listed in the KB article provided: hxxp://support.eset.com/kb332/

It can be achieved either by having access to the internet directly, or via the proxy server, which has to be configured in advanced settings of ESET Application (ESET Application needs to know, that it should access activation servers, via the proxy server). What "enabled proxy" you are talking about? Have you installed ESET Remote Administrator with the "apache http proxy" option? Or are you using your own proxy server?

I was referring to the "apache http proxy" which come with the ERA all in 1 installer.  We have enable proxy(apache http proxy) on client AV still Activation task failed.

That's why need confirmation.

Please note we have also checked that proxy(apache http proxy) is working or not by typing the hxxp://servername:3128/index.htmon browser. and it's work. we have mentioned servername and as well as ip in proxy details.

I have also faced the same issue and some points are cleared with this post.

I just want to know how we can check whether the workstation is communicating with edf.eset.com or not. Because when I check ping, I didn't get ping reply.

@21jags - Please send us the contents of the  errorl.log from the apache http proxy.

We are regularly testing the scenario, and activations are working OK, when Endpoints does not have direct internet access, however they have access to the proxy, which has access to the internet. Please make sure, that the machine where ERA & apache http proxy is installed, has internet access, and is able to reach edf.eset.com.

@21jags & Sarvesh

To verify, if your computer has access to ESET activation servers, just open the web browser on the affected machine and try to access: https://edf.eset.com/edf(as on the attached screenshot, that is the correct state).
