How about to get permissions to edit registry keys?

It stopped me on any of previous attempts.

Also, is it so difficult to make patch that will do that (with admin rights enabled) instead?

In to the regitry, go to the folder "InProcServer32". Right click and select permissions.

Click on the button "Advanced". On top of this menu change the Owner from "System" to the group "Administrators"

On the bottom select the box  "Replace all child permissions entries with......"  and click OK

Back to the first Permission menu, select the group Admininstrators" and select Allow box "Full Control" and click on OK.

Do this for both registry entries !!

Reboot computer and see you icons are back to normal!

Good luck!

Please let me know if this was the solution!

While I restored an image to correct this problem, why should I trust any posts except from Eset to modify my registry ?

Sorry for not trusting some posts here.

It's up to you. You can make an export before changing the registry and import it again if its not working for you.

But if you have time enough.. just restall your computer is also a option :) :)

OK, finally I've worked it out.

So, FIRST, repeatedly push Update button in ESET with Test option. The emphasis is on REPEAT SEVERAL TIMES.

It will show that somehow CM updates to 1112 from 1110. I think it took me 7 or 8 attempts.

SECOND, reboot the computer and do full scan (takes time)

THIRD, reboot computer again and do Restore to prior date to occurrence of the error (in my case 20th September).

Fourth, reboot once again and DO THE SCAN AGAIN, as it will again update itself.

Now, the registry keys look as should and although the version of SS is still same, CM1112 corrected the error.

All icons are manageable as before.

Many thanks to forum members, they helped alot and ESET didn't show practical speed to free us from hassles.

Restore function is safer than to mess with registry and I couldn't force my system to change permissions anyway.

If switching to pre-release updates and restarting the computer didn't help, let's wait a bit until the issue is fully investigated and a fix is distributed automatically.

O.K., I'll wait... My Window's icons are small - today after rebooting my computer I've got medium icons... It is a little annoying. I've changed them to small icons - and after rebooting my computer (12 times) - situation was the same...

Please run manual update to make sure that all modules are current. Check the About windows for information about installed modules and make sure the installed version of the Cleaner module is 1113. Then restart the computer.

Should the problem persist, let us know. It seems that v1113 of the Cleaner module should eventually fix the issue for all users.

Without any manual update (only the automatic one) mine is already v 1113 and no problem at all till now ;)

Thanks

I have 2 questions:

1. What is this: Cleaner module 1113? Is it the last one on this screenshot: hxxp://imgur.com/VKQWHZC  : Specjalistyczny moduł czyszczący: 1010 (20141118) ?

2. If I changed medium icons to small icons on desktop this way: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2szzrxJSKAY - does the ESET solution of problem work? Maybe I should back registry which I have changed yesterday? I mean this registry:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{42aedc87-2188-41fd-b9a3-0c966feabec1}\InProcServer32\
and
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{42aedc87-2188-41fd-b9a3-0c966feabec1}\InProcServer32\

to %SystemRoot%\system32\windows.storage.dll

if clicking the "update now" to update to the latest definition and modules and has no result, ti means that you already have the latest versions installed :)

No. The Cleaner module is the 7th item in the list.

Thank you. I see in my ESET that it is v. 1113.

Excuse me, but why should I change the system registry every computer in my company to fix application error for which I pay money year after year? Please specific information about when the fix will be issued.

There's no need to do anything manually. The fix was already distributed via an automatic module update as stated above.

also if you think you are not affected by the problem, you shouldn't change anything.

Once you have applied the fix manually, you needn't revert the change just for ESET to fix it automatically.

Hi,

I'm using Eset Endpoint Security, the Cleaner module seems to be upgraded to version 1113 (20150929), and I'm still facing the "icon arrangement problem".

Can you help?

If you are facing an issue with the size of icons in File Explorer, this should have been fixed automatically after installing the Cleaner module 1113 and running a startup scan (should run automatically after an update by default).

If you're having issues with icons on the desktop, I've read that this was caused by Windows itself and it was addressed in the latest insider preview build. What build of Windows 10 are you using?
