Guest Nick Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Hi. I have recently upgraded to the newest version on ESET 5.0.110 of ESET Cyber Security. I am running OS X 10.8.4 and and experiencing OS restarts. Upon looking at the crash logs, I have determined that it was related to the eset_proxy. I am experiencing this crash every day. Usually happens at night or early morning (not sure why). Here is a snippet of the crash logs. Anyone else experiencing this issue? Guest bbrkw Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I have the same phenomenon in 10.7.5. About 1 crash per second.
Guest Guest Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 I recently started experiencing this problem as well. I have reported to Apple, but looks like ESET will need to do something about it.
Guest Guest Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Below is the crash report from just now. Could one of ESET engineers recognize the problem and chime in with a solution or timeframe for a solution? malacoda 0 Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Same issue here as well. Usually happens in the late afternoon or evening (EDT). And, although it may only be coincidence, each time it has occurred (at least 5-6 times over the past week and a half) I have had a fair number of tabs open in my internet browser (Chrome), aside from at least 1 or 2 MS Office applications. Eset Sec. Suite for Mac 5.0.110.0 OS X 10.8.4 Is really becoming quite annoying...
Former ESET Employees AlexJ 9 Posted July 25, 2013 Former ESET Employees Posted July 25, 2013 Sorry for the delayed response. We are currently looking into this issue. We will get back to you as soon as we get more information.
Former ESET Employees AlexJ 9 Posted July 26, 2013 Former ESET Employees Posted July 26, 2013 Please manually uninstall and reinstall ESET Cyber Security. If you are still experiencing the same problem after the manual uninstall and reinstall try to get pre-release updates by following the instructions below: 1. Open the main program window by clicking the ESET icon on the menu bar and selecting Open ESET Cyber Security/ESET Cyber Security Pro or by clicking Finder Applications ESET Cyber Security/ESET Cyber Security Pro. 2. Click Setup Enter application preferences. 3. Click Update 4. Click Clear next to Clear update cache. 5. Click on Setup : next to Advanced Options 6. Check the box for : Pre-Release Updates Then Click OK 7. Click Ok again to close the Update window. 8. Click on Update Then Click on Update Virus Signature Database.
Guest Joel B. Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 I'm still having the issue after following AlexJ's solution. Are the pre-release updates for virus definitions or the application? I didn't see any options to force an application update and am still at 5.0.110.
Guest SweX Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Pre-release updates are for the Modules, and not the whole application. New modules get's downloaded via the VSD updates if you have pre-release enabled.

Guest Sameproblem Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Same problem here: BSD process name corresponding to current thread: esets_proxy Sudden crash out of nowhere. Forces Mac to restart.
ESET Moderators Peter Randziak 1,183 Posted July 30, 2013 ESET Moderators Posted July 30, 2013 mac_info_get.command.1.18.zip Hello, could you please provide us with output of enclosed Info_get script? Please collect the logs immediately after the crash. Thank you for cooperation.
SideshowAlex 0 Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I too have encountered the kernel panic. I have the output of the get.command script, but it is too large to attach to this message (the file size is 2.8M and there is a 2.0M attachment size limit). -Alex
ESET Moderators Peter Randziak 1,183 Posted July 31, 2013 ESET Moderators Posted July 31, 2013 Hello, could you please try to reproduce the issue with enclosed esets_proxy binary and provide us with the crash log? Archive is encrypted with password "clean" Replace the binary in the application folder, but keep the original one. @Alex - PM sent. esets_proxy.zip
redhatnick 0 Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Hello, could you please try to reproduce the issue with enclosed esets_proxy binary and provide us with the crash log? Archive is encrypted with password "clean" Replace the binary in the application folder, but keep the original one. @Alex - PM sent. To be clear, are we to turn on the pre-release updates first, or drop in the esets_proxy file first, or do both before testing again? Thanks.
ESET Moderators Peter Randziak 1,183 Posted August 1, 2013 ESET Moderators Posted August 1, 2013 Hello, could you please try to reproduce the issue with enclosed esets_proxy binary and provide us with the crash log? Hello, you could enable pre-release before changing the esets_proxy.
redhatnick 0 Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Thanks, I was able to update esets_proxy package inside ESET and checked the pre-release updates in settings. I've only had two crashes prior to applying the test fix, both when switching tabs in Chrome when suddenly the console starts outputting to my desktop before the system restarts. Can you share any analysis of what you may think the problem is, causes, so I know what I should better be looking for. I'm not certain if I will be able to reproduce the problem yet. Can you share what you may have tweaked in esets_proxy? While I wouldn't be totally protected, could I avoid the system crash altogether in esets_proxy if i were to turn off Web and Mail protection?
Guest ltrain99 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 I, too, have been system dumping multiple times and it looks like its related to Chrome like state in prior posts. I have followed the instructions above minus the proxy update. Is there any fix yet?
Guest Tim Devine Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Me too.....getting to the point I may need to uninstall Eset.
Guest Mark T Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 This is happening to me too 7/26/13 and 8/10/13 Eset_Proxy Crashes and restarts - mac usually on web. Today in Chrome on yahoo sports. ESET Moderators Peter Randziak 1,183 Posted August 12, 2013 ESET Moderators Posted August 12, 2013 Hello, According to Dev team after applying this fix there shouldn't be any crashes, but we are not able to replicate the issue in-house so we need your help to verify it. 1. Backup the original files ( esets_pfw and esets_proxy) esets_pfw with this command sudo cp /Applications/.esets/Contents/kext/10.6/esets_pfw.kext/Contents/MacOS/esets_pfw /Applications/.esets/Contents/kext/10.6/esets_pfw.kext/Contents/MacOS/esets_pfw.bkp esets_proxy with this command sudo cp /Applications/.esets/Contents/MacOS/esets_proxy /Applications/.esets/Contents/MacOS/esets_proxy.bkp 2. Download the archive, and unpack (password is "clean") copy (via command line) esets_pfw to /Applications/.esets/Contents/kext/10.6/esets_pfw.kext/Contents/MacOS/esets_pfw copy (via command line) esets_proxy to /Applications/.esets/Contents/MacOS/esets_proxy 3. Execute commands: sudo chown root:wheel /Applications/.esets/Contents/kext/10.6/esets_pfw.kext/Contents/MacOS/esets_pfw sudo chmod 755 /Applications/.esets/Contents/kext/10.6/esets_pfw.kext/Contents/MacOS/esets_pfw 4. Restart the Mac The crashes shouldn't appear anymore. Please keep us informed. Thank you. esets_proxy_and_esets_pfw.zip
