Purchase Licence initialization failed

Yesterday I got a message on my phone from ESET that my licence will expire in two days (a bit more notice would have been nice), and I tried to purchase a new licence.  I couldn't remember the password and tried two or maybe three times, then decided to wait until I got home.

Password in hand, I tried again but when I tap the Licence will expire soon/purchase licence, I get a 'Initialization Failed, purchasing is not available at this time' error, and it's still there.  With such short notice the licence will expire tomorrow.

Version no. is 3.0.1318.0-0

Phone is a Note II GT-N7105, Android ver. 4.4.2
