More Eset 7 beta ideas for the future release

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.  I just first want to thank Eset for having such a great security suite.  You guys def. have a great product.  I have been testing suites, and anti-virus for 7 years now and I always come back to your product.  Just a few little ideas id like to share with the Eset programers and designers.  Id love to see a search advisor for the 3 major web browsers and with the the major search engines.  This can really help ppl from going into bad websites.  Id love to see more hueristics and cloud to team up with your amazing signature protection.  I see your working on the Hips which is great idea.  I would like to see less ram usuage..the product is very fast but does use lots of ram.  Interface looks nice on V6..id like to see a option page for ppl if they want a more Windows 8 userface, etc.  For the facbook scanner would be nice when your looking at your posts and there can be a green check mark showing you that other friends post are safe and red if there not.  Last maybe a virtual keyboard or safe pay for credit card transactions or banking mode, and last but not least a chat encrption for skype, Paltalk, Yahoo Messenger, etc..  These small features would def. put Eset over the top.  Looking forward to your replies and keep up the good work Eset.

There are more "cloud" powered protection inplace than what most users are aware of. ;)

Regarding the RAM usage, I will quote myself on that....

ESET loads all it's sigs and modules into the RAM to increase the system performance, wich results in lower CPU usage and HDD I/O activity to make the system more responsive, as the RAM is faster than reading to/from the harddrive all the time, and it's been this way since V3 (at least) when I started to use ESET. And afaik it's still this way in V7.

And this isn't a bad thing at all IMO. After all I use ESET on an old PC with 512MB of RAM.    :)

What I am saying is basically, that a product that only uses 5-10MB could still be heavier on the system and cause more slowdowns than for example ESET.

Id love to see a search advisor for the 3 major web browsers and with the the major search engines.  This can really help ppl from going into bad websites.

ESET blocks access to bad websites. No advisory system is needed, a website is either good (clean) or bad. Websites are mainly evaluated based on the data from LiveGrid.

I would like to see less ram usuage..the product is very fast but does use lots of ram.

~150 MB allocated by ekrn.exe and egui.exe don't seem too much nowadays. For best performance, not only the engine with signatures loads to memory but also shorter files are unpacked in memory without writing to the disk.

Id love to see more heuristics and cloud to team up with your amazing signature protection.

The detection has been based on heuristics for a long time. As of v5, cloud blocks are supported and utilized as well. V6 and newer can protect against zero-day malware even before the appropriate update with a detection added is released.

i hate to disagree almost totally but please imo no search garbage!!! i hate all that extra junk. no keyboards etc... keep it simple no bloat..

now i LOVE the gui i hope no major changes to come.

what i love most is the simplicity of ess or nod. i dont need nor want all the "extras" to be thrown in like so many do today. imo v7 is almost perfect already. for me the ram usage is great it has basically no impact on a system even one with 512mb of ram it runs great.

I totally agree with zfactor, keep the GUI as it is, keep the bloat out, and continue on the ESET path and do your own thing it have worked great this far!
