ESET Insiders cutting_edgetech 25 Posted June 21, 2015 ESET Insiders Share Posted June 21, 2015 Does rundll32 really need internet access at all? It seems Microsoft keeps adding more, and more components to Windows that need internet access. It really makes me want to go to Linux for good. I don't think rundll32 should be given internet access considering how many threats use it. Does anyone know any reason why rundll32 must have internet access? Notice I said must. Guest
rundll runs code from dll files (it could be a windows dll a programm dll or a malware) so you can not know what dll file wants to get internet access
Fred Singh 1
So do you allow this traffic or not
ESET Insiders cutting_edgetech 25 Posted June 23, 2015 Author ESET Insiders Share Posted June 23, 2015 I allowed it a few times just to see if I could detect any application updating I went ahead, and created a permanent block rule for it. It does not make sense to allow internet access when you don't even know what is requesting it. I have not experienced any problems by blocking it. Fred Singh 1
Thanks. I have now also created blockrule, and will monitor possible conflicts.
