Signature update error. General compiler error

On a few workstations I am getting:

 

"Virus signature database update ended with an error.

General compiler error"

 

Clearing the cache, rebooting the workstation and updating the sig again always clears the error. However this is happening repeatedly and is becoming a pain.

 

Any ideas?

Please install WDK for your operating system, e.g. from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=11800for Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, and Windows Server 2003. It's enough to install Tools or extract tracelog.exe from the iso image.

 

Then continue as follows:

1, create the folder c:\logs

2, run the following command with elevated administrator rights:

tracelog -start updater -guid #f329ae9a-556d-4934-920f-234e835d9ece -f c:\log\update.etl -append -UsePerfCounter -flag 0xff -level 0xff

3, reproduce the issue

4, run the following command with elevated administrator rights:

tracelog -stop updater

5, send me the log c:\log\update.etl as well as information about the exact version of the ESET product you have installed.

I'm sorry to hear this as the issue could have been solved quickly if we arranged a remote session and troubleshooted the issue ourselves. ESET employs advanced technologies, such as LiveGrid, Advanced heuristics, Advanced memory scanner, Exploit blocker, Botnet protection and others to proactively protect users against more or less sophisticated threats, adware, potentially unwanted applications, etc. Recently I've personally ran into a case when a company got hit by Filecoder while having ESET temporarily uninstalled due to evaluating a competitive product. It turned out that if they kept ESET installed, we would have protected their systems and especially crucial data that they lost.

Please help , I keep getting this general compiler error when I try to update

If you have Endpoint v5 installed and if it updates from a local mirror, make sure the mirror is created by ERA v5.3 and that the latest version of Endpoint v5 is installed to prevent any future issues.

I have experienced this in case, when the HDD was almost full. ESET program did not have any empty space to apply the newest database files. It might be worth checking.

One general advice (which might help in some cases): check if you have enough disk space. This happens also when the drive where ESET is installed is full.
