Regarding Apache HTTP Proxy guide

Recommended Posts

Hello,

after not receiving any response to my support ticket which i sent like 2-3 weeks ago. I am now writing this here hoping that someone will help me.

We have recently upgraded to the recently released version 6 and to be frank it is giving such headache, i never had this much trouble with a product. I have configured a Apache http proxy so that the client pull the updates from the proxy however i am not sure if it is working or not. In the web console i can still see that the clients have an error that they cannot update the database which is weird because i followed the guide. Guide being used: hxxp://kb.eset-la.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN3637

Am i missing something here, do i need to make further changes in my administrative console or in the clients themselves.

I would also like to mention that remote installation of agent and clients are also not working properly. Basically the only three configurations i am trying to make are all not working.

It's not clear if you used the all-in-one ERA v6 installation package or you installed the ERA components separately. If the former, everything should be already set up and you'll just need to deploy agent on clients and push a software install task (or assign it to a dynamic group).

I'd suggest checking proxy server settings on a client and making sure that it points to the IP address of the server with http proxy server installed. To list files in the proxy server cache, run the following:

"C:\Program Files\Apache HTTP Proxy\bin\htcacheclean.exe"  -a -p "C:\ProgramData\Apache HTTP Proxy\cache"

I used the all-in-one ERA 6 installation and did assigned remote installation(agents and clients) tasks to client computers. However that did not work.

I also altered the proxy setting in client so that it points directly to the proxy server from where it should pull the updates.

Additional information: I have installed the apache http proxy in the same server where i also installed the all-in-one ERA 6

So now i could configure the http proxy server correctly, turns out a required port was not enabled. Currently i am struggling with the other two configurations which is first the remote installation of the agents and then the endpoint antivirus on client computers. My question now is; is there a need for specific ports to be opened like with the http proxy configuration? Is it the SSH, which would then be port 22?

Please reply to this, i really do not want to open a new thread.

Hello,

there is a checklist ESET Remote Administrator Push Installation Requirements and Checklist of requirements for push installation.

However if you have domain environment and you use GP or something similar it is highly recommended to use it.

For more info please check our online help describing Agent deployment , there is a separate chapter for it.

Hi Lind,

Could you please share me the way to install the agent in the first time by the way "Deploy Agent remotely"?

Due to when install the Agent remotely, the client computer must go to repository.eset.com to download *.msi package to install, so it is very slow. Can I download *.msi package and put it on C:\ProgramData\Apache HTTP Proxy\cache for the first installation?

Thanks,

Binh

You can configure a software install task to download the installer either from ESET's repository or from a local URI (e.g. file://\\server\share\installer.msi). If ESET's repository is used, HTTP proxy will cache the installer so that other clients won't need to download it as well. In order to take advantage of the http proxy cache, send the task just to one client so that the installer is fully downloaded and cached for future use by other clients.

Hi Marcos,

Thanks for your answer.

If the client computer is not installed agent, how can you use the software installation task for install agent in the first time?

My question is: I would like to install agent remotely from ERA server, and can I use the shared local folder for storing Agent.msi

Thanks,

Binh

Hi,

When deploying the agent remotely, you can't change the location from where the installation file is taken.

You can specify that in case of the Agent Live Installer. Please see our help regarding this case: hxxp://help.eset.com/era_admin/62/en-US/index.html?agent_live_installer.htm(especially the bottom part where we describe how to edit the script to get the installer from a local share).

Hi Tomas,

Thank you for your information. With your way, I must go to each user and install, so it is not good idea.

Thanks & Best Regards,

Binh
