Impacts on server performance with Exchange Mail Security?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

we're running MS Exchange 2010 inside a VMWare virtual machine with 6 GB of RAM, which is admittedly tight. about 50 Mailboxes running on it, of which are about 10 heavy-duty (> 10GB Mailbox Size, lots of mails).

We're about to install Mail Security on the productive server.

Before doing so, I want to be certain about the negative effects on performance Mail Security will cause. Are there any? If yes, will it affect CPU or rather RAM?

There should be a very low impact on your server as long as Exchange is installed with Microsoft best pratices. ESET has one of the lowest footprints, and in my experience, has very little impact on resourses. That said, yes your are running a bit tight on that machine so monitoring it for a day or so would be advised.

Hi DerFunk,

I use Eset Mail Security for Exchange on 20 odd Windows SBS boxes which don't have as many mailboxes as yourselves but have similar specs and performance wise it doesn't have any effect on the stability or reliability of the servers, very lightweight A/V tbh,
