AirPrint Printer Problem on macOS

Yesterday I setup a brand new iMac running the latest version of macOS 15 and everything appeared to be OK until I installed ESET Cyber Security. I had installed the printer, an HP Envy 4520 and it was visible in the control panel. After installing the ESET software the printer was no longer visible and could not be added as it was not found. Yet an older iMac not using ESET Cybers Security can print to it. I can also print to it from my iPhone.

Then I tried to print something from my MacBook Pro (Intel) running macOS Monterey (12.7.6) and the latest version of ESET Cybersecurity and my Canon G550 (AirPrint) showed as off-line. I restarted the MacBook Pro in Safe mode and the printer showed as on-line. I then uninstalled the ESET software and the printer is now working.

There is clearly a problem with the ESET Cyber Security software and AirPrint. I'm not happy running any of my computers without anti-malware protection so this needs to be resolved or I will have to find an alternative to the ESET software that does not cause this problem. It only appears to have started recently so I assume is a bug in one of the latest versions of Cyber Security.

Please refer to https://forum.eset.com/topic/43415-printer-issue-with-sequoia-1511-and-eset-cyber-security-828000:

We are currently investigating the issue. In the meantime, you can uninstall only the firewall using the component uninstallation, re-run onboarding wizard and disable the firewall until we find a solution.

Hello,

Please verify the version of the configuration module. A version of 2155.1 or newer is required for the proper functioning of the home firewall.

You can check the version through the GUI, though please note that the GUI needs to be restarted after the module is updated. Alternatively, you can check the version via the terminal using the following command:

/Applications/ESET\ Cyber\ Security.app/Contents/MacOS/upd -l | grep "Configuration module"

Thank you!

If you're still experiencing issues after ensuring you're using the correct version of the configuration module, we recommend performing a clean installation of the product:

  1. Uninstall the product from your system.
  2. Restart your Mac.
  3. Reinstall version 8.2.800.0.
  4. Set up the product again, including re-creating any custom firewall rules if applicable from your previous installation.

This process should help resolve any lingering issues.

Tonight I checked the version in Terminal with the command shown above and it is 2155.1. I just run the onboarding wizard and put back the firewall. I then checked if I could see the ink levels in my Canon printer as this was not possible yesterday. Now I can see them again. I did a test print and now it is all working. I must assume that my copy of Cyber Protect has updated as communication with the printer did not work yesterday.

Full marks to the people at ESET for getting this fixed PDQ.
