Recently ESET introduced folder guard feature. Please make it robust and more effective. I am not comparing it with other AV with what they offer. But I have used Avast and Norton in the past they have the same feature which basically denies all permission to access to secure folders. They don't rely on whitelisting or whether that app is malware or not they simply block every access to it. My suggession is to make ESET's folder Guard to deny all access to such protected folders and everytime ask user whether to allow the permission or not. Please take a look of how Avast or Norton offers it as a secure folder feature. They both have same set of features and they offer strict mode where every permission to access such folder is being denied and needed user's interaction to allow the same. Ever services like opening a file or access pictures they deny microsoft tools at first. This post is made with a view to make ESET a better product. Please consider my suggesstion and take a look of how Avast and Norton are offering their version of Folder Guard. This post is not meant to undermine ESET security features over others. Please make it robust and hardened.

There's an existing topic https://forum.eset.com/topic/43096-effectiveness-of-folder-guard-function-in-eset-smart-security-premium, therefore we'll draw this one to a close.

The current system is good and will be improved and hardened even more over time. It doesn't require the user to define trusted applications but you can still allow or disallow access for specific apps. In order for malware to be able to modify files in protected folders, it would have to be whitelisted and omitted from scanning like Windows files.
