MrZork 3
I created profiles like "ProtonVPN" "GTA 5" "Visual Studio Update" in the original ESET I installed and it worked great. I could select a profile with a picker and then the rules specific to that profile would be applied. However, with a previous update, the picker was gone and I had to go into a list of the profiles I had and edit the profile I wanted to use, adding "Any" to it to switch (and there are bugs). Also, with the most recent ESET, looks like they removed profile selection from the advanced rule creation. So I've got to manually edit the rule after it's created to assign a profile. When will all of this mess get fixed and they restore a picker for selecting the active profile?
Administrators Marcos 5,277 Posted September 30 Administrators Share Posted September 30 You can select the desired firewall profile for a particular network in the Network connections setup: As for the profile selector in the interactive dialog, would you like to have an option to select multiple profiles to which the rule would be applied? MrZork 3
I didn't know the "network connections" view existed, but it's not a quicker solution in my case than adding an "any" activator to the profile I want to use, because I have perhaps 5 different connections in that view and I've got to switch all of them over - virtual connections from VMware, VirtualBox, or Proton VPN. Switching all of them actually takes longer. Part of what makes it slow is that I've got to authenticate repeatedly, each time I change the profile for a connection, even if I immediately go to the next connection. ESET probably needs a general fix where if you provide auth, then it's good for some amount of time, at least on the same view, so I don't have to repeatedly retype my password and click "yes" on the elevation notification. As far as the advanced rule creation, as you show you're only offered a checkbox so your choices are either that profile or "any" if the checkbox is not checked. Better would be an actual picker so I don't need to edit the rule after creation. There's also a bug here with regard to setting profiles when a VPN is present so that you get prompted at least once (perhaps more) when the VPN first connects, even though the rules are already there. I tried to reproduce it with something simpler like a separate Firefox profile that allows Firefox to the internet, but it didn't repro with that, so it must have something to do with the virtual connections used by a VPN.
