Artem Baranov 1 Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 Hey guys Have noticed behavior that is probably worth your attention; perhaps forwarding to the product team would be a good idea. After the removal of ESET Smart Security, the product remains registered in Windows Security app in the snoozed state, thus leaving the user without antivirus protection. In this scenario, Defender should automatically be enabled once the uninstallation is complete, as the removed product has detached itself from all system settings. But this doesn't happen due to a potential error in the communication between ESET and WSC. After removing ESET, Defender can't be turned on, even manually. At least one reboot is required. I've got a video, but not sure how I can share it. It was reproduced on the up-to-date Win11 23H2 with the latest version of ESET SS downloaded from the official site.
Administrators Marcos 5,731 Posted September 27, 2024 Administrators Posted September 27, 2024 I don't think this is a general problem. Windows 11 23H2 is several months old and even if this issue was not found during pre-release QA tests, it would have been reported by many users after the release which is not the case. Please raise a support ticket for assistance with further troubleshooting.
Artem Baranov 1 Posted September 27, 2024 Author Posted September 27, 2024 IMO this scenario isn't common, because /I assume/ most users choose reboot after uninstalling the product. Other users may simply don't check the status of antivirus protection after removing a 3rd party AV product. I don't need troubleshooting... my purpose was to notify the product team about a potential issue...
Administrators Marcos 5,731 Posted September 28, 2024 Administrators Posted September 28, 2024 I was unable to reproduce it. Did somebody else succeed and reproduce it? Peter Randziak 1
Artem Baranov 1 Posted September 28, 2024 Author Posted September 28, 2024 Thank you for the reproduction.
Artem Baranov 1 Posted September 28, 2024 Author Posted September 28, 2024 While recording a video of the reproduction, I got the correct behavior of the product/system... Must be not a bug. Thank you for the reproduction either. Peter Randziak 1
