egui.exe do not start with system

Recommended Posts

I haven't used this pc for more them one year. When I started it I noticed that eset didn't start with windows (7 pro 32bit). I updated the program to the last version, tried to repair the installation, uninstalled and reinstalled, tried this procedure: hxxp://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN532&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1371601008123 adding the shortcut in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup, and also in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup. But it still do not start. I also scanned the pc with spybot and malwarebyte in safe mode and cleaned a couple of problems, but eset still don't start. Ekrn.exe is running, but egui.exe start only if I manually start the program....

what can I do?

P.s.: since this topic wasn't appearing after I created it, I recreated the topic with a short description, and that topic appeared. Now that it's not there anymore, for the person who asked if I can manually star egui.exe the answer is yes. Sorry for the double post!

If you open the Task manager, do you see egui.exe running? Isn't it that just the tray icon is not showing?

I would uninstall spybot and malwarebytes and test it out. Also make sure you don't have something like ZoneAlarm installed either becuase I have had it cause the same issue.

Of course it is not running on Task manager. I will try to uninstall spybot and malwarebytes, but I always had both before and never had problems, and they are not set to start with windows, I just manually start them whem I want to perform an extra scan. I have no ZoneAlarm installed.

Just uninstall Spybot and Malwarebytes, nothing changed.

In register editor I can see that in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run there is the value; egui   REG_SZ            "C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET Smart Security\egui.exe" /hide /waitservice

Check the system event log for errors related to starting egui.exe.

In the Event Viewer > Windows registry >  System, I didn't found nothing. In Custom Views I found this:

Hello,

Here are my suggestions for this computer which has been left powered down for a year:

  1. Download the latest version of the ESET Uninstall Tool from hxxp://download.eset.com/special/ESETUninstaller.exe and save the file to a location you will remember..
  2. Download the latest version of ESET Smart Security from hxxp://download.eset.com/download/win/ess/ess_nt32_enu.msi (English) or hxxp://download.eset.com/download/win/ess/ess_nt32_ita.msi (Italian) and save the file to a location you will remember.
  3. Uninstall the currently installed version of ESET Smart Security via the Start Orb→All Programs→ESET→ESET Smart Security→Uninstall and shut down the computer.
  4. Start the computer in Safe Mode by repeatedly tapping the F8 key as the machine restarts.
  5. Once is Safe Mode, run the ESET Uninstall Tool just in case there are any remnants leftover after the uninstall you just performed (this is unlikely, but I want to take this extra step just to ensure that everything works for you).  When done, shut the computer down.
  6. Start the computer as you normally would, and install the copy of ESET Smart Security that you downloaded in step 2.  Once the program is installed, start an update manually if one does not begin after installation.
  7. After ESET Smart Security finishes updating, go ahead and configure it in whatever manner you prefer.

Please let us know if that resolves your issue.

Regards,

Hi, I've just did all the steps (in safe mode it found two av and I uninstalled both). But it didn't work. after the reboot egui.exe didn't start alone, just manually.

Hello,

My best guess is that there might be another process interfering with the launch of the EGUI.EXE application.

What I would suggest at this point is getting in touch directly with ESET's Italian distributor so they can work directly with you on investigating the issue.  They will be able to provide you with help locally,  which may work better than here due to the difference in time zones.  Their contact information can be found here on their web site.
