Let's talk about privacy in ESET Browser Privacy & Security

Hello,
With the new ESET update the new Browser Privacy & Security extension has been added for all common browsers on the market. I have installed it just to try it out, just curious. When I went to the Firefox add-ons, I found this review on the extension: "Spyware. deceptive company". Obviously, I don't accuse ESET of anything (although the man in the review seems not very happy with the new service), but I would like to know what the extension is going to do in the background. The memory of Avast's malpractice with their extensions is still fresh in my mind, so I'm worried about ESET's possible commercial plans.

  • Is ESET going to keep the collected data anonymised or will it be sorted by unique IDs?
  • How long will the data be kept on ESET's servers?
  • Is there a chance it will be sold or, as various legal teams like to say, "transferred to third parties to maintain or improve our services"?
  • To what extent is the data collected and is the entire browser history logged?

Thank you very much for your understanding.

I'm not aware of that the browser extension would collect additional data to what the product already collects providing that you have opted for submissions of anonymous data. The scope of collected data is described in https://help.eset.com/essp/17/en-US/idh_home.html?privacy_policy.html.

No data is currently stored (apart from the internal state/settings of the extension itself). No logging of browser history, no sending data to the server.
