Can not install V8

I uninstalled NOD32 AV, downloaded the live installer..... when installing I get error, can not install and for me to run the Necurs cleaning tool..... that will not run!

So I can not run V8, would XP with Sp2 have anything to do?

No, certainly not

Try running the Uninstaller in safe mode, then retry your installation again.

If Live fails, try the offline msi.

Yep I agree with Arakasi, maybe also consider to at least upgrade XP to SP3.

SweX, you are now confusing me, from Arakasi post I assume he would not have me doing a reinstall if I needed SP3 which he made no mention off, this leaves me no wiser!

I thought I gave the impression that I was trying to avoid installing Sp3.

As said, I uninstalled via Add Remove programs, it left 'leftover' files and registry entries, when time permits I will try again, I also intended to try a 'over the top' install.... I did not use the uninstall tool.

During the attempted installation I got a request to do a Necurs scan, the scan would not run - this worried me! I did a scan with TDSS killer and found nothing, so I manually search in the hidden files in Plug and Play again nothing, so I re-cloned and left it at that because time was short.

I will try again shortly, thank you for the replies, I will get back with the results.

Try installing SP3, uninstall NOD32 (in safe mode with the special Uninstaller) and reinstall it again.

If you're worried you could be infected you can run the ESET Online Scanner or download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

And about the specialised cleaner: What means it doesn't run? Does it just don't detect any infections or does it displays an error message or what else?

Nah, I read it that you are using SP2....I didn't understand it like you are actually avoiding SP3.

But I know some people that want to stay with SP2 for different reasons, I was only suggesting to update to SP3 that's all.

Before you try to install V8 again, do run the ESET uninstaller in safemode, you can run it several times until it no longer finds anything. Download it from here: hxxp://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN2289&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1414955029284#win_vist_un

@rugk.....   I will say again, Nod32 gave the impression I was infected with Necurs a scan with TDSS Killer  came up clean, then I said I searched the hidden files in Plug and Play (Device Manager) that came up clean.

I didn't run the uninstaller.... maybe that was the problem, I did searched the registry and folders for any 'leftovers' but may not have done a good job - my bad if I didn't.

Got some PCB Cad work going, will have another 'bash' asap and get back.... so I can take it V8 will run XP Sp2. Thanks for link which I will refer to.  It would be nice to have these links incl. the installer somewhere on the forum, seems I can never find them.

Let you know how I do, regards.

Dave

PS: I do have Sp3 on a CD.

Version 8 requires SP3. With Windows XP SP2 or older systems installed, you should get an error that installation on that operating system is not supported.

Ok, there we go, upgrade to SP3 and problem solved.  :D

Right, so he should get a "OS not supported" error, and not a recommendation to make a scan for a possible Necurs infection. Then I can understand if it is a bit confusing  ^_^

...and it should be fixed yes!

@Pentode

Is your problem solved now with an upgrade to Windows XP Service Pack 3?

The fact that WinXP SP2 is not supported doesn't rule out the possibility that the computer is infected as well :) The best would be to install SP3, maybe the same error will occur even then.

No of course, I mean if he is not infected then it's a funny recommendation, it could recommend an update to SP3 instead  :D

But we'll see how it goes once he got SP3 in place and what error he may see, if any. In any case it should at least install fine.

Solved:

Sorry for the delay.  I've installed XP Sp3 32 bit and a trial version of Nod32  v8 AV to see how things go on a spare drive... and all seems to be up and running.

I just a day or two ago renewed my license for V7! My problem was that v8 would not run on Sp2, it needed Sp3. I take it I can just swap the license over to the new install after a few day's trial once I know everything is OK. - I did a complete re-install of the operating system not that I needed.... took best part of a day to get all my files back.

Thanks again.

Yes the license is not tied to a specific version. You can upgrade or downgrade as you wish and simply put in your user/pass at the end of the installation process.
