I'd also add that we recommend switching to the pre-release update channel in the advanced update setup which supports the new firewall in v16.2. The module will be available to all users at the time of the release of v16.2.

Hi,

Unfortunately, the problem on my computer persists and the icon spins until I restart the computer a second time.

Eset animation of its desktop toolbar icon occurs during the following events;

1. Checking for Eset updates.

2. Downloading and installation of Eset updates.

3. Default Eset scheduled scan as a result of 2)..

You will have to determine which of the above is active when the icon animation persists.

One possibility for Eset's startup scanning not completing is a "deadly embrace" scenario. That is two processes are trying to access a file at the same time under exclusive control resulting in a deadlock status between the two processes.

Is Eset the only security solution installed on the devices having this problem?

Yes, ESET is the only antivirus on this computer, the problem started with the release of version 16 and neither 16.1 nor 16.2 solved the problem for me.

Reinstall version 16.2.11 don't resolve spinning icon, still spinning after power on computer.

Hi everyone,

I too still have the spinning-forever Eset icon - it's been that way for nearly 10 months now. Currently running 16.2.15.0 and having the same experience as Szkrabula and others.

I have already lost all hope of fixing this problem in this version :( maybe it will be fixed in the next one.

I have this problem all the time.

When reporting the issue, please include information about what you are seeing when you hover the mouse cursor over the spinning icon. If it reads "update in progress", does the icon stop spinning after running manual update?

Good day 

I have version 16.2.15.0. and I have spinning ESET icon .
There is is no update available. I clicked on check update and nothing was forthcoming. It has the latest updates.
I have rebooted my laptop today. 
The only thing that changed between today and yesterday - it wasn't doing it yesterday - was:
I changed the performance priority on my laptop from appearance to performance and I switched the Paged Pool memory sizes from "Let Windows do it automatically" to a user defined size 5000MB -  20000MB, because Eset was slowing down my laptop. 
I only have 4Gb Ram. 😔

Anyway hope this helps to sort out the spinning icon.

I am running 16.2.15.0 on Windows 10 and the icon never stops spinning. It says when I hover over it: Scan is running - even when no scan is running. 

Is there an answer to this problem yet? Is there anything I can do about it?

Does the issue persist if you switch to the pre-release update channel in the advanced setup and upgrade to v17.0.10?
