OS X Shutdown Delay?

Hello,

I've noticed that with ESET Cyber Security Pro installed, my MacBook Pro takes very very long to shutdown.

Usually it shutdowns in a few seconds, but with ECSP installed it increases the time it takes, sometimes over a minute.

Any reason for the long shutdown?

That doesn't sound fun Planet :(  And I can't imagine that its normal and meant to work like that.

It's not too fun... this is happening on one of the latest MacBook Pro's available (and also tested on an older model) and was happening since version 5 last year. I was thinking that version 6 would have done something or that someone else may have noticed it and reported it.

With all the other issues combined, I've had to temporarily stop using Cyber Security Pro until a resolution is made.  :(

Yeah I hope this and the other isues will be fixed ASAP, and that the Mac line up will be as trouble free as the Win line up usually is, well apart from the two bugs that sneaked in into the V8 final release. I have to uninstall V8 and go back to V7 in the meantime.  :(

Which two bugs.

Have you tried adding exclusions of any of the directories to see if boot speed clears up ?

How about disabling scheduler and start up scans planet ?

Sorry if I were unclear, I meant the Win version.

Didn't mean to go off-topic in here, sorry Planet, only to mention there is issues in both camps at the moment.  :D

1. possible mem leak

2. and my cpu issue

What directories would you suggest excluding? I'm particularly concerned for shutdown, boot only takes about five seconds from power on to desktop as per usual.

Disabling the available items within scheduler doesn't change anything I'm afraid.

No it's fine, completely understand!

I dunno, try these :

/bin

/dev

/var/log

/Applications

/System

This is only temporary and for 1 reboot, to see if you can isolate the issue and whats causing the slow boot.

An update - shutdown is at least delayed 30 seconds.

After some testing and looking through logs, I found that esets_daemon may be the cause of the shutdown delay.

(com.eset.esets_daemon) Service has increased maximum shutdown time to 65 seconds. This will create a poor experience for the user.

Is there a way for esets_daemon (and the other ESET processes) to be shut down normally with the other OS X processes, so it doesn't cause this delay?

Edit: Still occurring with 6.0.14.0

The latest version of ESCP (6.0.14.0) is a pain to shut down, over 1 minute to power off the mac

removing it and the mac shuts down in seconds

ESET please fix this ASAP

Hi,

Did some testing on my clean installed OSX Yosemite 10.10.0 on SSD in bay#2 SATA-II and STILL running ESET CSP 5.0.115.0

Just to be excact about 'slower' or 'faster'

1. Closed all programs:

2. Checked cpu usage for running processes:

post-3436-0-27256400-1415801754_thumb.jpg

Shutdown time: 21s

Startup times:

Chime -> Apple Logo = 7,8s

Apple Logo -> Desktop all startup items fully loaded including ECSP = 25s

Total = 33s

What are your results for ECSP v5 and or v6?

Mac Specs: MP 5.1 (2012) DODECA @ 2.66 Ghz | 24GB @1333Mhz | 500 GB 840 EVO in bays #1 + #2 | 500GB 840 EVO's RAID0 @ DUO X2 | WD RED 4TB RAID0 | 8800-GT (MAC) + GTX-670 FTW 4GB (PC)

This is for ESET Cyber Security Pro (6.0.14.0) on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) with a 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 processor, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory and the built-in Apple SSD.

Startup

No difference.

Shutdown

Without ECSP: 4 seconds

With ECSP: 61 seconds, 24 seconds, 42 seconds (it varies per shutdown)

Did you find a solution to this problem? I have a Macbook Pro 15" Retina (mid 2014) and have exact same issue, all is fine except shutdown/restart.

Thank you.

Small update - issue now known by ESET (along with other issues on ECS and ECSP), hopefully there's a solution soon.

Perhaps it'll appear before the documentation for the current release appears.....

A bug has been identified in ECS/ECSP that may cause longer shutdown. It will be addressed in future builds.

Any idea when this build will be released as this bug has been present a long while

I noticed that the new release of ESET Endpoint Security for OS X (6.0.24.0) has this shutdown bug fixed (as well as most other noticed issues from ECS & ECSP fixed), so hopefully it isn't too long.  :)

Still no sign of a new release or a fix to this issue

ESET Cyber Security Pro makes my Mac way slower than a Windows PC to shut down, I think I'll uninstall it again and await the next release

I know it has been a long time already, but I wonder if ESET could provide an optional fix or patch for the shutdown issue for now in 6.0.14.0, until the next release? (Since it has been already resolved with the release of Endpoint Security for OS X earlier)

To my best knowledge, a new version of OS X should be released some time soon which is the reason why it takes a bit longer to release a new build of ECS as it should include support for the new version of OS X too.

True  :) Does that mean though if any future bugs or issues arise with this new build of ECS, we won't able to have any updates or fixes (that modules can't resolve) or when a bug like the shutdown is discovered, until the next major OS X version? Or is it just because this shutdown bug isn't considered important to need a solution right away?

I have been a long-time supporter of ESET. On a Windows platform, their software has a small footprint, is beautifully designed, stable, stays out of the way, and does a great job. I have long since those days touted ESET for being a great company with a great product.

I purchased Multi Device Security which comes with Cyber Security Pro for my Macbook Pro (Yosemite) and I have been nothing but DISGUTED with ESET as a whole with this product. Not only has ESET known of this bug for 9 MONTHS, but they have yet to bring a fix to market. The year license I have with my software was wasted because I simply do not tolerate software that deteriorates the performance of my machine. With CSP, it was often found running my CPU at 90-95% for hours on end and it has this infuriating shutdown hangup. Where my MBP used to shut down in 3-5 seconds, it was now well over 60 seconds. Who knows if it's causing damage to the underlying OS or not, but this has put a SERIOUS dent in whether I'm going to stick with them for another year, seeing as they just wasted the time never getting a fix out.

I'm a software developer; I know fixes don't come in a matter of days. But this is inexcusable and ESET should honestly be ashamed of themselves. I've since taken CSP off my Macbook and will look for other alternatives that don't jeopardize the stability of operations on my machine. Get your act together ESET. 9 MONTHS.

Hello Aegis,

We are very sorry for the bad experience you’ve had with ESET CyberSecurity, especially given that you’ve been a loyal long-term supporter of ESET. Our mission here in ESET is to let people enjoy safer technologies which unfortunately wasn’t accomplished in your case. As you probably know, OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) should be available in fall 2015 and all fixes including the one addressing slow shutdown were planned to be included in the next service build together with support for the new version of OS X after it has been released.

If a particular issue prevents a user from using our products, we try hard to offer the best solution available which is either an internal build addressing the issue or another kind of compensation, including refund. We will shortly contact you via a private message to arrange a refund for your multi-device security license.

We value our customers, listen to them and do our best to continually deliver state-of-the-art products that provide excellent protection against threats. We do hope that you will retain your loyalty and will stay a member of our evergrowing ESET community.
