HIPS in automatic or, better learning and then intelligent

I had actually just come here looking to  ask the same question. I have been running defaults for quite some time so everything is automatic. Is Smart mode the recommended setting over automatic if no custom rules are set as implied? Is there any reason I would not want to do so?

I have used HIPS Smart mode setting ever since I have been using Eset; i.e. 8 years.

I am never received a HIPS alert from an internal based HIPS rule in this mode. As far as I am concerned, it is a "vapor-setting." Also, search past forum postings where others have posted the same.

Mine always had it in the automatic settings, but I ended up changing it to smart mode here.
Do you have a link so I can take a look at the differences between them?

Nothing more exists that I could other than what was stated in this thread.
