ESET 14.2.23.0 firewall blocking and re-blocking a number of apps

Recommended Posts

As per subject, ESET firewall has started to block a number of legit apps. I unblock them and the next day it's blocked again. Is this normal? I am attaching a screenshot of it on a good day. On a bad day things are worse. It also blocks firefox and several other apps which seem to work anyways but not the MS Store.

Thanks,

First of all, please make sure to update to the latest version 14.2.24. If you run update manually and the program doesn't update, try clearing cache in the update setup.

Should the problem persist, please provide logs collected with ESET Log Collector. If you want, you can uninstall EIS and install v14.2.24 from scratch; this should definitely resolve the issue.

Is the Eset firewall Filtering mode set to default value of Automatic?

Another thing I noticed from the posted blocked apps screen shot is all the apps being blocked are Windows apps.

The Eset firewall has a setting titled "Also evaluate rules from Windows firewall" that is enabled by default. What this setting allows is unrestricted inbound network access for any app so defined by a Win firewall inbound rule unless an existing Eset firewall exists that blocks such network traffic. It is imperative that the "Also evaluate rules from Windows firewall" setting be enabled to allow Windows apps to function properly.

Hi Itman,

Auto. If i move to interactive it drives me mad repeating the same notification hundreds of times even if i tell the app to keep the settings. This happened after the last but one update. It was all fine. I also blocked two specific IPs Wireshark and an IP check marked as unsafe, with a lot of interesting reactions. However, the issue shows also when i disable them.

First of all please make sure that ESET has updated to the latest version v14.2.24. Should the problem persist, carry on as follows:

- enable advanced logging under Help and support -> Technical support
- reboot the computer
- reproduce the issue
- disable logging
- collect logs with ESET Log Collector and provide me with the generated archive.

With the rules disabled and if this was inbound network traffic from these IP addresses, the Eset firewall will block this network activity unless it was initiated from some app running on your PC. Further if your router has a firewall and it's a stateful one, the router would auto drop any unsolicited inbound network traffic.

Also note that creating a firewall block rule does not prevent the blocked network activity from appearing in the Network Troubleshooting wizard. This is by Eset design. It is also something I believe should not happen and have commented on previously in the forum.

Hi Marcos,

Will try to make time for that.
