Limit CPU Utilization on Servers During Scan

Recommended Posts

Hello,

OS control doesn’t always work as intended and in high-CPU utilization scenarios during full AV scans the CPU usually struggles to take back control from the scanning process, especially if it’s scanning large files and encrypted archives. And the usual immediate solution is to reboot the system. Does ESET AV support scan exclusions by filename/extension or path?

You can run a custom scan to scan only selected folders. While it's possible to specify file extension to skip from scanning in the on-demand scanner setup, it doesn't make sense to not scan files that might potentially carry malware.

In specific cases performance exclusions may be required, e.g. on MS Exchange server Microsoft recommends excluding certain files and folders to prevent potential issues. Another example is backup when the files being backed up were already scanned so scanning them again after being written by the backup sw process would unnecessarily slow down the backup process.
