ESET SysRescue Live Troubleshooting

Hello,

 

My first interaction with the linux distro is bumpy.

 

I downloaded the iso first from the official release thread posted by Mr. Goretsky.

Thanks to my admin tendencies i created the usb boot drive myself using Rufus. (fat32) (udf was available)

Upon booting i received a Live file system not found.

 

Returned to create using the Live tool. Checked the already downloaded ISO.

Screenshot attached is what i ran into.

 

ISO is ok ? Can someone double check ? [its fine]

Hello,

 

I has returned posting from Chromium ! 

 

I moved my usb drive from the front header to the back motherboard port and had no issues this time.

Testing feedback

 

Internet LAN cable: OK

Virus DB Update : OK

On-Demand scan : OK 

Submit File: OK

 

Teamviewer: OK

GParted: OK

 

System does not see my Pci-ex SSD. So my Windows C:\ is missing. 

This does not worry me as my other 4 standard mechanical drives are detected fine.

 

Edit: SSD is detecting fine. It shows up in the Computer interface.

 

I feel like its Christmas.

Found what could be a flaw in design or problem with the way i did things.

 

After scanning and cleaning i chose to try booting to windows from sysrescue and i received an error.

Attached is the infections found and error.

 

I can no longer boot to windows, the computer tries to load a non boot partition after the fact or similar.

 

When i try to boot to my sysrescue live usb after the fact, i encounter the "Missing Operating system" error.

 

May phone in to support for this if any staff is ready to troubleshoot or create ticket for this new roll out.

Update:
 

So the cleaning of Conduit, broke the pointer for boot partition.

I was aware some versions did this, but never found one.

Will be using Startup repair to hopefully fix.

 

The reason for my USB SysRescue being corrupted and will no longer boot is still under investigation.

 

Will be formatting the usb stick and reloading the SysResq live; then trying to reproduce the incident.

Upon downloading a new copy of SysRescue live, i was able to create a new bootable usb drive.

Unsure what caused the break yet.

ChadH provided superior assistance in this case and there may be more to come !

 

System restore would not work for os repair. I am almost certain Conduit is at fault.

I'm trying to create a disk with sysrescue

I can't get past the ESET Antivirus tab

 

That tab is asking me for an MSI file that I don't have.

 

I don't see anywhere to download the MSI file on the ESET website.  

 

The file I downloaded to install ESET SS was an .exe file.

 

Without the MSI file, I get an error "Selected MSI file does not exist".

 

There is no option to choose "ESS/EAV folder" because that option is disabled (Gray).

Hello,

It would be easier if you created the Live version which is linux based, rather the windows based one you are attempting to create.

 

There is a link in my signature for the Live version in black text, as well as a User guide on that page for setting up.

From the eset sysrescue linux environment, I plugged in several usb drives, but whenever I try to "create eset sysrescue live usb" it tells me that "no USB flash drives found in the system" no matter what usb port I use or what usb  drive I use. The Disk parted can see it, remove partitions, format it, but the create routine cannot see it as a "usb flash drive"

 

In that same environment, I can run updates and on-demand scans, thus I have had to resort to using CD only, but some of my machines have non-functional cd drives, which is why I want a bootable usb option

 

I am on a HP laptop currently 2 gb memory, 3 usb2.0 ports.

ESET SysRescue is a great tool as compared to others in this category (Kaspersky, Dr. Web, Bitdefender, Avira etc). So, ESET team, kindly look into this issue and resolve so we can enjoy using this tool while cleaning infected PCs.

This is maybe because you have a quite old VSD version. Additionally there was just released a big update that stressed the update servers a bit (read more in this topic) and for this reasons some users don't get updates at the last week.

So I can only suggest you to try to update later and keep hitting the update button a few times. This may resolve your issue.

So I have downloaded "ESET SysRescue Live" from hxxp://www.eset.com/int/download/utilities/detail/family/239/on WIndows

 

This is an installer which downloads an image then writes it to an USB stick. This works well.

 

Booting my Latitude DELL E5540 with the stick works.

 

The stick is actually an Ubuntu 12.04.4 Long-Term-Support edition (published 2014-02-06). Nice.

 

Problems with this:

1. It somehow does not like my Nvidia Graphics Card, as windows may flicker away into nothingness.
2. Can we have more keyboard layouts than the US only?

Ok, so, the network is up. The scanner says that it is using "Update 9551" of 2014-03-17. A bit oldish.

 

Clicking on "update" tells me "update is not necessary". This is either the wrong error message or a lie.

 

I figure I should enter the username and password I got when I got the NOD32 license into that window....

 

However, that doesn't change anything, "update is not necessary". Yeah right.

 

What am I doing wrong?

Hi Doge2000,
You're not doing anything wrong. There is an issue with the product which causes that under some circumstances it may receive such response from our update servers. We will fix the issue in the next version.

In the meantime, there is a workaround - after booting, just delete the file /var/opt/eset/esets/lib/data/data.txt (you may need to use the built-in Root Terminal, as there are no permissions for a regular user to manipulate with the file).

Unfortunately the Ubuntu version provided really disagrees with my laptop: Unstable display, dropped Ethernet link... Not sure I can fix that. WIll there be an updated Ubuntu in the next version?

I have just created a SysRescue Live USB, and this still seems to be an issue, with the updates not updating. Is there going to be a fix?

I've had also this issue, but I have fixes this by using the workaround posted by TomasP three posts above (deleting data.txt). Solved the issue for me. Maybe you could try this.
