Hello,

ESET has released a new program, ESET SysRescue Live.  It is free to download and use (e.g., no license from ESET is required to use the program).

ESET SysRescue Live is a standalone utility that allows you to create a bootable rescue Live CD/DVD or USB flash drive that you can boot infected PC's from to scan and clean them.  It will even download virus signature database updates if a network connection is available.  This new program has been in development for months, and is based on ESET's popular UNIX programs, ESET NOD32 Antivirus for Linux Desktops and ESET Cyber Security for Mac OS X.

Since this does not require ESET credentials, will the credential enforcement be removed from the original Win based SysRescue, or will that be retired ?

The core promotional offerings is scan once with the online scanner, or download trial and receive unlimited scans for 30days. ( Of course the SysRescue is not protection on a system )

How does Sysrescue Live come in to the light not requiring ESET credentials. Just curious.

Hello,

It's actually the next-to-latest build of MemTest86+.  It will be updated to a newer version in the future after testing.

Hello,

The Windows-based version of ESET SysRescue created using WAIK/WADK will likely continue to be available in the future, however, I don't think it will be featured as prominently.  There are still some situations where customers might want to use it (specific system configurations that Windows supports that Linux doesn't, etc.)..

ESET SysRescue Live CD is not a protection program.  It will clean infected PCs, of course, however, it's not the same as having a realtime protection program ala ESET NOD32 Antivirus, ESET Smart Security, etc. on there.  I don't think that anyone sees this as a replacement for that.  One of the big reasons for releasing the Linux version is getting around the various customer pain points¹ surrounding the Windows build.  It's ~30% the download size, and the customer doesn't have to download an x64 version of ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus, then go back and download the x86 version in order to have the proper files to put on the WinPE image, etc.

What this is seen as is a free tool that helps people remove malware, just like the other free cleaners ESET provides, the ESET Online Scanner, ESET SysInspector, etc.  The only real major difference between those other programs and ESET SysRescue Live is that this also helps ESET's support engineers help people, because it has the remote connection tools built-in.  Now, if someone who is not an ESET customer comes along and uses it, that's okay, too.  Perhaps they'll even think about becoming one, but there's no sense in being aggressive about it:  ESET would burn whatever goodwill it generated with providing a free tool by antagonizing everyone who used it with ads.  No one wants to see the ESET Android do that, after all.

¹Oh dear.  I can't believe I said that.  I've been hanging out with too many marketing people.

Hello,

Quote from: ESET Knowledgebase Article #3509, "How do I use ESET SysRescue Live to clean my computer?"

SysRescue is not able to clean detected threats in Windows Vista 64-bit, and Windows 8/8.1
Due to the file-system architecture of these operating systems, ESET SysRescue Live cannot clean threats detected during scanning. An updated version of SysRescue Live with the ability to remove threats on these operating systems will be available soon.

Is there an ETA when a fully functioning version will be available for these operating systems?
