Antivirus Protection is disabled

I have been occasianly getting an error:

Antivirus protections is disabled

Virus scanner initialization failed. Most of the ESET Smart Security modules will not function properly.

 

I tried updating the version and the databse with no help. anyone else having this issue and know how to fix it?

Does uninstalling ESS and installing it from scratch make a difference? Please provide more information about the oper. system used and the total amount of RAM / free RAM.

I have this same issue. Un-installing / Re-installing does not make a difference.
