ESET Endpoint Attacked and stopped working

Recommended Posts

Just few days ago we encountered problems with our HIPS and seems to be not working properly. As we checked it if it was enabled we saw some Chinese text below it and ESET can no longer function properly. I provided screenshot below of the actual window.

Restarting egui should fix it. However, only 6.5 versions were affected. Please avoid restarting the computer and check if you have the Update module 1074.2 installed (Update -> Information about installed modules). Restarting the computer would make Endpoint malfunctioning with the system date set after Feb 7. With the Update module 1072.2 installed, restarting the machine should be safe and Endpoint should work alright.

If possible, please consider upgrading Endpoint to the latest version 7.2 as soon as possible.

It would be better if we get notified that there is a newer version. So we could stay up to date not just on the Virus Database.

Email perhaps or an Exclamation mark on the icon stating there is newer version available,🙂

Your ESMC should show you notifications about new upgrades for Endpoints/other products once available.

After upgrading to Endpoint v7.2, it will provide you with an option to upgrade the product automatically. Despite automatic programs are not enabled yet on the backend, the latest Endpoint is eventually ready for so-called microPCU program updates.

Then that might be a bug as well. There were no notification visible neither on the taskbar or when ESET is being updated for Database Signatures.

In Endpoint 7.2 make sure that you have this check-box checked:

In older versions there was a setting for desktop notifications after update in the advanced update setup. Notifications are not displayed by default.

We have updated to version 7 now and have the old version automatically removed by the installation package. We could not confirm this information anymore if it was enabled or not.

As to stay safe and not vulnerable to attacks update like this are best not configured but informed. High risk is involved when not updated. Having this needed to be configured and disabled by default loses it's main purpose of staying protected and safe.
