Not detecting malicious websites

Recommended Posts

I've also purchased the AT&T mobile security plan which often alerts me when there has been a threat like malicious websites have been blocked. ESET has never done this and I am just wondering why??? I have attached an example of what AT&T's warnings look like today when theirs warned me and on that same day within a few hours ESET hadn't.

The link appears to be safe, however, I was able to test it on Windows and on Android it may show a different content. Did you attempt to open the link in a browser that is supported by ESET?

No I didn't.

I visited the link which is a URL shortener service which is why it may have got flagged up by AT&T - URL shorteners allow you to take a really long link and shorten it into something easier to share and remember. These services are generally safe themselves but cybercriminals will use them. The problem is that you can't see what the link resolves to - for example I took the non existent scamsite.com and shortened it with bit.ly another url shortener and it gives me bit.ly/2O83MHm - so a scammer will try to use these links to re-direct people. There are services that can find out what is at the other end however.

So I should disregard these AT&T warnings?

It depends. Did you load just that url you posted or a link that was shortened. If just the link it is probably okay
