Process crash

Recommended Posts

  • ESET Insiders

Hello,

could you please provide me with the crash log?

I can check it, we maybe already have an workaround for it.

As we said it is not one issue, but more resulting in one observable behavior, which makes this quite complicated.

Thanks for your prompt reply Peter, much appreciated!

I reverted back to 5.0.115.0 a while ago. I'll check my incremental back-ups for .crash logs in 10.9.2 (12C1012) with ECS Pro v6.

~ Cheers

@Planet: Try to enlarge timeout for kernel spinlock to avoid crash by command: "sudo nvram slto_us=0xffffffff" and restart for apply.

In case you experience kernel panic please provide us with logs as described on the end of this post.

Minutes ago I've just experienced my sixth Kernel Panic by esets_proxy. This time I clicked on a link from an email, Safari was partly loading it, and everything froze then crashed. This panic was after the commend suggested.

I'm getting these panics more often in the past week for some reason, should I continue having the command applied or should I revert back to default since it's not helping with the panics?

I'll send you a PM shortly with all logs.

@ALL: To get all required logs please use this Info_get script, password is "clean".

Just run the script, upload the output archive to safe location and provide me with direct download link and encryption password via Private message.

I've just tried to use the script, but I get an error message about not having the appropriate access privileges and can't seem to resolve it, even when I go to 'get info' and make me the owner, and set all groups to 'read and write'. Even tried 'sudo open' in terminal and got the same error message.

I'm having the same problem, happens every other day or so.  Sometimes multiple times in a day.  I haven't figured out any pattern.

Are you all updated to 10.9.3 (13D65) when reporting the same issues?

Yes. Also Safari 7.0.4 (9537.76.4).

Hello ESET team,

I recently often encountered process crashes like once per hour.....

Here is my crash report and I hope this helps you to fix the problem.

Hello,

@Planet please run it directly from terminal as an administrator with elevated privileges, it should work.

Please keep the setting as it is for now and provide us with the logs, we really need them to investigate the issue, because we are not able to reproduce it internally.

@Tsdevice, Johnosheridan and HIROSGR

could you please provide us with the full set logs as mentioned here:

https://forum.eset.com/topic/2102-process-crash/page-4#entry14148

@HIROSGR #2

have you tried to enlarge timeout for kernel spinlock to avoid crash by command: "sudo nvram slto_us=0xffffffff" and restart for apply.
In case you experience kernel panic please provide us with logs

You may return everything to normal by running command "sudo nvram -d slto_us" and restart to apply

That what I did, and I still received that message (with sudo and without, my user account is an administrator). This is the first time getting this message. The usual files from ESET Support work fine in previous cases.

So try to enter command "sudo su" to terminal and take screenshot what happens. Are you able to log in ? Does it accept password you entered ? If not you are entering your user password not root password which can couse this issue.

Figured out the issue, just needed to "sudo chmod" the file for it to open and work.

I knew something was up as I've used sudo before with no issues and even with previous command files.

Sending the files now via PM.

Thanks for prompt reply. I haven't tried this sudo command yet.

I am currently running my mac without ESET in order to finish my work. (sorry, the crush happens too often so that I had to uninstall ESET for a while.)

I will try it and get back to you with the full set logs if something happens.

Now had my seventh Kernel Panic. Since the update to 10.9.3, it's been happening daily for me. Was just loading a webpage from a Google Search result, nothing else. I'll stop posting when I have the panic now as it's a daily occurrence.

Well, I've had it... throwing in the towel. Even after uninstalling 6.0.9.1 and reinstalling 5.0.115.0, I still have problems. The panic crashes I had with Mavericks and 6.0.9.1 are gone but now with 5.0.115.0, esets_daemon keeps running up my CPU load... the cooling fan sounds like a leaf blower and my CPU temps are spiking around 105c. I've uninstalled 5.0.115.0 and said good-bye to ESET until they get this sorted out, which me off because I'm paying for something I can no longer use. I've installed Sophos Anti Virus (free) and have had no problems with CPU loads or crashes. I hope ESET will take note and do the right thing.

If it helps, it seems to happen A LOT when I have an SD card in the reader (after downloading my photos, before I remove my card....after it wakes up from sleep.)  It's a lot more stable when I don't have a card in the reader.

FWIW,

Tim

Hello,

we have a custom (unofficial) build, which should solve most of the reported issues.

In case you have been facing the issues and you are willing to participate in testing, please send me a private message with reference to this thread.

Ever since switching from using Safari to Chrome almost a week ago, I've no longer had any issue with panics.

My previous panics were all from using Safari, so this might be a plausible workaround based on my situation.

Like you, I have only experienced the issue with Safari. I do hope ESET fixes this issue soon

I have found I get more crashes when the 'Scanning' processes are active (either at startup, or during a scheduled scan)

I, too, have had problems recently with crashes related to esets_proxy.  My latest crash log is below.  Until a fix is made, I shall avoid Safari and see if that helps.  If I crash again, I'll try the sudo fix.

Hi, I am experiencing the very same problem, crash and restart, it seems it always happen when using Safari and other soft together. BSD process name corresponding to current thread: esets_proxy, iMac late 2013, OS X 10.9.3 [13D65], all updates applied including latest Safari. It started with version 9 of Cyber Security Pro, never had the problem with earlier versions. My wife which only does basic processes [mail or Skype or safari web browsing], no multi-tasking, on her iMac never experienced this problem. She has a similar software setup. This is really annoying and since this problem is going on for some time I would have expected to have a solution by now. Never had an Eset problem before and I use their programs for many many years. I have removed the program and re-dowload and re-install it, even tried to disable web security without success; the problem is still there. I found out going again through all these pages that eset is requesting to send more logs, I will next time.

Hmm, it would be interesting to see if all users who have posted so far use Safari as their main browser or remember using Safari when the kernel panic occurred for esets_proxy.

I also had the kernel panics very often by esets_proxy but it was not with Safari. I've been using Firefox as my main browser.....
