Patrick Matz 0
Why is it that the Virus signature data base is only updated on the weekends 2 times?
SweX 871
Hello Patrick. Reading a bit in this thread from 2012 may give some answers: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=336617 Though today there are even more cloud powered technologies in ESET's products so having VSD's sent out at a particular time schedule (1 update/hour like some vendors) or X amount of VSD's per day is not as important today as it was in the past. In anycase when there's a need to release a VSD then ESET will do so that's their policy. And FYI it has happened many times through the years that more than 2 VSD's has been released on a weekend and it will differ from day to day as well. ESET Insiders puff-m-d 120 Posted February 16, 2014 ESET Insiders Share Posted February 16, 2014 (edited) Hello, SweX explained it all very well in his post above. At the time of your post, I have received four VSD updates (not two) this weekend (9428, 9429, 9430, and 9431). Are you currently on VSD 9431? If not, you may want to clear your update cache and try updating again... Edited to add: I just checked on Virus Radar and indeed there have been four updates so far this weekend... ESET Insiders Podrska2NORT 5 Posted February 17, 2014 ESET Insiders Share Posted February 17, 2014 There is just one tiny bit of information you may consider about this topic: Long time ago malware writers were hoby guys/girls who were writting malware on their free time. So peaks (maximum numbers of new malware) were during non-working hours, on weekend and holildays. Today malware programs are written by corporate teams (either mafia types, or governemt types - all the same ) and malware frequency just shows this trend.
