Upgrade ERA 6.5 to EMCS 7.0

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm trying to upgrade my ERA 6.5 VA to EMC 7.0 VA

Pulling the database from remote server works, but i get an error 2564 while upgrading the database.

Error: 2564: Error Occured while upgrading database
/Root/eset_installers/Server.sh --skip-license --local='en-US' --db-driver='MySQL ODBC 8.0 Unicode Driver' --db-hostname=127.0.0.1

I found something about reverting back the ODBC driver, does this also apply to EMC 7.0 or only to ERA 6.5

Thanks

Best regards,

It applies to both. Regarding MySQL ODBC v8 driver, currently only version 8.0.11-e17 is compatible as stated at https://help.eset.com/esmc_install/70/en-US/odbc_configuration.html.

Could you provide more details of what steps you are using to upgrade? Migration steps are described in documentation  - did you follow them? In case you downloaded latest appliance, there should be compatible ODBC driver installed.

Also I would recommend to check installer log (/var/log/eset/RemoteAdministrator/EraServerInstaller.log) for more precise error: trace message as provided by ODBC driver should be available there.

Yes i have used the documentation

- Start the VA and don't configure

- Pull the Database and the database restores

- Connect to IP and configure

There seems to be some problem when running DB upgrade and new installation in one step.

I would recommend to:

  1. create backup of original ERA 6.5 appliance
  2. upgrade ERA/ESMC components in original appliance. Components upgrade task can be used for this. Once finished, you will have old appliance with new version of ESMC components.
  3. migrate already upgraded ESMC from old appliance to new appliance. As ESMC server will be already on latest version, there won't be any need to do DB upgrade and procedure should be successful.

Can you tell me which of the following links is the right way?

I would recommend to follow https://support.eset.com/kb6819/ except final check of upgrade check which is platform-specific. You can also check documentation for components upgrade task.

Also a manual update reports the same database error

Could the following be causing the problem, The Agent on the Virtual Appliance is version 7 and the server is version 6.5.

Lookes like i made a mistake with updating, I tried removing the Agent and install the 6.5 agent but i cannot downgrade.

I would recommend to contact ESET support in your country. Seems there is something wrong with database and it will most probably require more advanced analysis.

Regarding AGENT versions, that is definitely not reason for ESMC Server upgrade failure, but be aware that 7.0 Agent won't connect to 6.5 Server
