Hi folks,

In ESMC the Computers icon on the left appears with a red number, which I'm assuming shows the number of machines that have an error.

When I filter the computers with errors the number never matches the list, which leads me to one of two conclusions:

1. The number on the left is wrong.

2. This number relates to something else.

I have asked ESET support about this, and they said it's a known bug. But the previous ESET Remote Administrator did exactly the same thing, so I just want to check with other users whether this sounds correct? If so, I can't believe that such a vital bug has not been fixed.

Thanks

Hello @CMS

Issue is that the information is changed dynamically. There is a different update frequency of the update of the "red rectangle" in the main menu, and the actual elements. Means, that the moment you open the GUI, it it´s most probably already changed. If I am not mistaken, the menu refreshes in 15 minutes interval, regardless if you refresh the main computers view, which reads the data from the database straight away.

How big is the difference in your environment? And does it correct itself even if you keep logged in for a longer time, or force relogin (which should toggle re-reading of the data).

For example the number in the main menu is still "6" - same as it was yesterday - yet still only 4 computers show with alerts.

Am I right in thinking that this number *is* for computers with alerts? Just in case I'm comparing it with the wrong thing.

This number should indicate the number of computers that are in the red security state. Meaning, if you go to "status overview" dashboard, and you check the 4 color tiles, number in the red tile should be corresponding with this badge on the "Computers" tab. Also, if you go to computers, click "all" with "show subgroups" and then set the status filter to red, it should show you a list of devices. Count of those devices should correspond to the number on the badge.

So the dashboard also shows 6 as "security risks". if I click the panel it takes me to the computer list for machines with "Alert" status which is back to 4 machines again.

Any ideas?

That is weird. When you are navigated to "computers" pane, is the checkbox "show subgroups" checked in, and are you sure you have no other filters enabled (for a specific product / mas / another condition)? In general, it should be 1 to 1 and I have never experienced such behavior. If it´s not due to filters set, we will need a ticket, and possibly access to your exported DB to check, if that would be possible.

Yes, subgroups is ticked, and no filters are set.

Then I would recommend to create a customer care ticket, as you might have corrupted database.  We might need to take a look into it.

Any chance those two missing devices are "muted"? Seems that dashboard reports them as problematic even when muted, which I consider a bug.

I've double checked and no PCs are muted. The offset always seems to be two, as the number of PCs with alerts has increased to 5, but EMSC now shows "7" on the left.

I'll log a support ticket.
