ESET randomly using 100% of my processor

I've been using ESET NOD32 going on 5 years now and all of a sudden over the last month during random times my computer processor starts running 100% locking my computer. When I look into the resource monitor its says its ESET thats running and Ive checked the ESET program and it shows no scanning of any kind running. I try to cancel ESET from the resource monitor and it won't let me which my only fix for the problem is to manually restart my computer. After doing this I don't see it for a few days and then out of nowhere it starts again. My computer is an i5 4670 @ 3.40GHz and ESET when running a scan after checking my resource monitor only uses less than 20% of the resources so I have no idea what causes ESET to randomly use 100% of my resources and Im about to ditch it for another antivirus if I cant find out what the problem is. Any help is very much appreciated!! Regard, Russ

Just to make sure, is ESET the only security software that is running on the machine? Could you confirm that neither Windows Defender (in case of Win10) nor Malwarebytes are running? What OS is it? Do you have EAV 12.0.31 installed?

If you were able to reproduce it easily, it'd help if you could confirm that pausing real-time protection makes a difference.
