"close to overusage" notification in EBA

We just replaced our RemoteAdministration(ERA) with the new SecurityManagementCenter(SMC).
In this process we migrated our license managment environment from LicenseAdministration(ELA) to BusinessAccount(EBA)

We get the "close to overusage" warning at 90/100 used licences.

As far as i can recall in ELA we either limited the margin from 10% to 2% or disabled the warning complete but since we moved the license i can no longer tell.

Is there a way to do the same in EBA?

We report license overuse only when the number of used licenses reaches the total number of purchased licenses. Please post a scree shot of the notification your received as well as the public license ID so that I can check your license details on files.

It is possible to disable "close to over-usage" warning in EBA as well. Just navigate to the "settings" tab (someone, who has "admin rights" to the EBA account).

Here a screendump of EBA: Warnings and Licenses.

A warning is shown as soon as the activated devices exceed 90% of our licence. In our case starting at 91/100.
We have a pretty static environment where the the  number of activated devices changes by only a few in a year and there is no reason to pay for more devices than we own.
I find it similar to a parking-assist that beeps before entering the parkinglot... too soon.

We did manage to postpone the warning until 98% or get rid of it complete, so the first warning is the actual overusage (>100%).
(In ELA that was). We want to do the same in EBA.

The options are shown in Dutch, but as far as I can see i can:

  • Disable the upcomming license expiration warning
  • the Actual overusage warning.

I beleive this last one is the setting MichalJ mentions but as you can see it is disabled but still the "Near to overusage" warning is shown....

You mean the warning is shown in EBA, or in ERA / ESMC? I will have to check with the PM/Dev team for EBA. I am afraid, that this setting only disables the actual e-mail notification, and not the warning / status change that is them populated to ERA / ESMC. I will confirm once I hear back from them.

The ultimate goal is to get rid of the warning in ESMC as we use this one the most frequent used.
I think the warning in EBA is usefull but in ESMC its not: in this tool your goal is to see an "All Clear" and no unnecessary warnings.

As far as I can recall we the license warinings in ERA were triggered by the settings in ELA, so we made the adjustment in ELA.

All ESMC does regarding to Licenses is pointing to Businees Account or MSP Administrator....

You can still use ELA security admin account with ESMC. So if your licenses are still in ELA, it would work like till now. If you have migrated your licenses however, I am not sure, if you will be able to get them back to ELA (I have not tested this). I have approached my colleagues with question about the EBA behavior, and inheritance of the license status in EBA by ESMC. As EBA was coded from scratch, there might be a possibility that this behavior was not correctly "transported". But we will track an improvement for it, and possibly address it into some next feature release. But I have not received answer yet, so all of the above are just "assumptions".

Rome wasn't build in one day either.... (Bad example: been there? Tutti Kaput...?)
I don't mind if it's work in progress as long as it is improving over time.

This 10% treshold is rather large. Makes sense from a Sales point of view but not for Operators.
We only have 100 devices,  but that would be the entire 10% margin for a 1000 user company... define "Almost" overusing...

Would you rather be warned that you have 10 seats left than be warned when you have 1 left?

I believe 10% is quite a good margin as it gives you time to enquire about new licenses etc. I see what you are saying with a 1000 user company, but it is all subjective. A 1000 user company may employ 100 more people before a 100 user company will employ 10.

Companies using ESET would only moan even more if there was no "overusage" warning as they wouldn't know how many licenses they had until it's too late.

Kieran Barry

I agree that a timely warning is desirable, but timely is defined by the dynamics of your company and a warning is not a constant reminder.

In the last 12 years the network grew from 72 to 90 and shrunk back to the current 80 employees.
We bought a 100 user license to be on the save side and most of the time more than 90% usage.

The default setting causes ESMC to show a warning for the 90%+ usage, in my case for the last 6 years,  basically masking any other warning, as i grow blind for it.
I understand the need for a warning but not in my face, all the time.  (Boy who cried "Wolf")

What we got is a notice of a possibly imminent violation of the license agreement.
On a functional level there are no pressing matters so a constant reminder should not be applied in daily used operational tools.

On the commercial level there might be a problem in the near future but there are a number of alternatives to communicate this.
In the early days overusage was permitted (don't know if they still do). As far as i know ESET is monitoring overusage and they can take action if needed.
With the commercial network of resellers a license upgrade is a matter of minutes.

Meanwhile an e-mail from EBU/ELA without the constant reminder in ESMC would be nice.
