Can't install ERA Agent in W. Server 2003

Recommended Posts

Hello guys,

We've a customer that uninstalled ERA Agent from a system running Server 2003 SP2. Upon that he can't install the Agent again.

He ran ESET Uninstaller in safe mode but the problem persist. When installing the program a message appears saying that a critical error occurred and ask for a log creation. I'm attaching the log generated according to KB 406. Inside the rar you'll find the ESET Uninstaller log and also the install.log and setupapi.log files.

Thank you.

The error is:
ERROR: (ConfigInsertPeerCertFile) Checking certificate ended with error 'ParsePfxCertificate: PFXImportCertStore failed with Object already exists. Error code: 0x8009000f'. Path provided - 'C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\EsetRemoteAdminAgent\{B454B5C8-5C87-4F24-B9F5-2A9A199F08F5}\peercert.pfx'

If you have ESET File Security installed on that server, temporarily disable self-defense and reboot the computer. Then delete the content of "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\ESET\RemoteAdministrator\Agent" prior to proceeding with Agent installation.  Finally re-enable self-defense.

This errors comes from operating system, more specifically from operating system call PFXImportCertStore . Unfortunately we have never been able to identify cause of this issue, as it is very rare. Have you tried to reboot machine? IS this machine fully updated? I cannot verify it, but maybe using different AGENT certificate for installation might help.

Thanks @Marcos and @MartinK for the replies.

The server was restarted more than once and even with EFS completely uninstalled the problem persist. We asked him to delete the folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\ESET\RemoteAdministrator\Agent and to try installation again. We also suggested to replace the IP with the host name of ERA server when installing agent.

We should note that the original installation of Agent was on another drive (not C:\). Anyway customer tried to install to C and others drives without success.

We are waiting for the customer to complete the steps we sent him.
