Online Scanner file loss?

Recommended Posts

Downloaded online scanner, begun scan. Had to stop it after a while with the Task Manager and then i manually deleted the folder in the users file. Before this it had detected 2 infections, which were most likely not viruses but "suspicious" applications. Have i lost these two files due to them being quarantined? I have no idea what files they were or even if they were quarantined automatically. I had chosen not to automatically clear threats in the settings.

Are any files detected automatically quarantined, or does that require for an online scan to finish.

I checked the log and found no files listed to have been quarantined, but i don't know if that would be listed anyways.

Thank you

Hello Martin,

the quarantine is located in the Users folder so if you manually deleted it you, the quarantined files got lost with it.

The quarantine is described in http://support.eset.com/kb405/?locale=en_US Q10 Why are infected files moved to the quarantine after the scan?

The restoration of files quarantined by ESET Online scanner is described in http://support.eset.com/kb2915/?locale=en_US

Regards, P.R.

In case you need the files I would recommend to recover them for a backup or download from the original source, if possible.

If these two options are not possible you may try to get then back by the deleted file recovery tools, in this case try to minimize writes to the disk before the recovery.

In case you think that the detections are false positives please submit them for analysis as described in http://support.eset.com/kb141/?locale=en_US
