Hi All,

I know this would not be ideal but is there a way that I can limit (via RA Console or via each individual client) the times at which definitions are pulled down (whether by the mirror server or via the client)? Ideally, what I would like is to have the server mirror update at night and if the PCs are on they would update on the next polling of the server, or if they were off they would pull it when coming online in the morning. I was unable to find any settings along these lines but maybe there is a behind the scenes method?

Thanks in advance!

The signature database should be updated as frequently as possible in order to keep staying protected against new born malware. Even a delay of a few hours would expose computers at risk. Of course, if the computers are not connected to the Internet, the risk of infection would be much lower.

Hi Marcos,

Yes, I agree, and this was why I admitted it to be not an ideal solution. The reason for wanting to consider it is that on one network there is a subset of PCs that are old and slow and there are complaints about the slowness :) that I cannot verify firsthand and I was wanting to try a scenario where I know that the definitions are not updating during the day so they would not be slowing down the PCs with the process that entails. Unfortunately this client will likely not want to or be able to update all the older PCs they have, so I am just considering possible, less than ideal, workarounds.

Thanks again

You can disable the default update tasks and create your own which will run daily at a specific time.

Sorry, I am not seeing any update tasks, and it appears I posted in the wrong forum here. This is a business edition setup, with a mix of 3.x and 4.x clients using a 3.x RA server. I had advised them to let us upgrade the components when they get a downtime window, but referring to recent deployments we made elsewhere of 5.x there appear to be no settings there to limit the update window. Does creating an update schedule task in RA suppress any client-side defaults for updating?

Please feel free to shift the thread over to the other forum.

Hello Piersplowman,

do you have the v.5 endpoints connected to v.5 ERA server for remote administration?

Hi Peter,

The impacted site/client has a mix 3.x and 4.x clients connecting to a 3.x ERA server (I know not ideal). I had recommended that they have us bring everything to a later version but I don't see any way of doing that download window adjustment on v5 either, though having a later version would be better for other reasons.

Any suggestion you can offer on narrowing down the update window would be very helpful. I have only had occasion to do this for once before for another client using a competing product and that product did allow that sort of adjustment (though that "competing" product was lacking in just about every other way :D )

Thanks again

Update tasks can be disabled, edited or added under Tools -> Scheduler.

Hi Marcos,

Thanks. So just to make sure I am understanding right, this can only be done on each client manually, and there is no way to do it via the Remote Admin console. Is this correct?

I do see the update tasks on the client side, before I was looking via the Remote Administrator policy.

thanks again

Hello,

in CFG Editor (Part of ERA) you can find it under ESET Kernel-> Settings -> Scheduler/Planner
