Does switching update server type to pre-relase updates in the advanced update setup and running a manual update make a difference?

The question is why are outgoing e-mail attachments being scanned in the first place? Scanning of incoming attachments are a must. Scanning of outgoing attachments are a waste of computer resources.

It could make sense to scan outgoing email as somebody might unwittingly attempt to send out malware in an archive. Unlike real-time protection, email protection scans archives internally and would detect the malware. However, that scenario is highly unlikely to happen, especially given that archives are fully scanned upon download. I can't tell how the fix (workaround) affects outgoing communication as SMTP communication is not scanned but it's been confirmed that the new module helped.

Please post information about installed modules from the About window. Also try the following, one at a time, and see which makes a difference:

- disable automatic start of real-time protection and restart the computer

- disable protocol filtering

- disable HIPS and restart the computer

- disable firewall in the advanced setup
