  1. When i open the computer scan box, under CUSTOM SCAN, when i go to in-depth scan on dropdown list, THIS PC, etc, are all checked. When go to Smart Scan, this PC, etc are not checked. I have noticed the smart scan has been finishing in about 10-15 seconds. Are these settings correct? Thanks.
  2. thanks Tom. ill follow your advice - keep it simple. cheers. keep up the good quotes.
  3. i work offline mostly. ESS updates keep popping up. Can i disable this. Dont worry - i check for updates as soon as i go online. if i should NOT disable ess updates, let me know. thanks.
  4. Thanks for the good tip, Tom - RE - r.mouse klik on hiding w-10. It works! On 7 & 8.1 However, after i download the updates after hiding w-10 - guess what - it is there again. so i guess i will just do the R.mouse klik and hide it (w-10) each time i check for MS updates. I'll be on the road - might have a hard time getting internet connection - going to a place off the radar. About 6 weeks. However, when (if) i find a way to get online, i'll check this forum. It is very good. Thanks again for all the help you have been.
  5. thanks tom - yeah - i got 8.1 I have adjusted setting to ask me permission before both downloading & installing updates. Ill see what happens when MS has more patches. Cheers.
  6. BTW - W-10 still wants to download when i go for critical updtes only to be notified of. I think i gave permission for w-10 to update at some time in the future. Help!
  7. i got a good answer on the post by itman above - a post started by Marcos.
  8. MS came up with a recommended update & an optional update. They both were ok. However, when i gave permission to download, W-10 started downloading! I hit cancel. Now, when i want to install MS recommended update, W-10 is in the background, "poised" to download. I use broadband.
  9. I just applied an update for my virus signature. However, MS said they had an optional & a recommended update. I gave the ok to download. However, it started to download W-10 - WHICH I DONT WANT. I managed to stop the MS download. However, when i check for MS downloads, the W-10 is hidden - however, i know fron the size they are trying to PUT it on my computer via the optional update. I cannot download the recommended update without the optional (W-10) coming with it. I know this is not an eset issue. Just asking around out there.
  10. Yeah - i liiked at that help above. I went and asked the scan to log everything scanned - at the log of this scan, the lights started turning on. am a bit of a hands on learner, so appreciate people like you. I like your quotes on your posts. I would rebuttle God helps those who help themselves. - with Romans Ch. 5, verse 6.
  11. i went to the eset knowledge base - it said files marked in blue (like my scan logs are) indicates MS files, or password protected files. My question - why is the number - 4 at the end of each blue lined error opening in the log? Thanks.
  12. Just been looking at my scan logs. At the bottom of the scan results it says "[4] Object cannot be opened. It may be in use by another application or operating system." Than, he message "erroe opening{4} is after each item scanned. any help / info would be appreciated.
  13. thanks - good advice. i just have to get a round tuit.
  14. thanks TomFace, Yes i will look more to the knowledge base & help. Thanks for the reminder. You asked about a vulnerability scan - i have had BitDefender & Mcafee & they had a "vulnerability scanner" - which picked up latest from MS as well as browser & other updates. They also sent it automatically, like eset seems to.
  15. I went to the knowledge base - learnt what smart optimization is. Looks like the indepth scan will not use the smart optimization which is good, for them times i want to have a more "indepth" scan. Am i right in assuming that when i press "default" all settings are set to default? Thanks for your help - you have been a gold mine of info, & it is appreciated. I get on this forum to better learn nod32 during my "downtimes". the Knowledge base is good - need people like you with wisdom about the knowledge to help people like myself. After all knowledge without wisdom is kind of futile. So thanks. Cheers.
  16. Is there a vulnerability scan with nod32? If not, what is best way of getting them as they come? How can i know any patches from MS are being installed? Thanks.
  17. i am not sure what exactly an in-depth scan is or does. My settings are default - seems nothing is selected (computer, c, etc). Is this default settings ok. When i get a chance, i am trying to learn the setups - thus the questions "now & then". Thanks.
  18. I have Nod 32 installed on present computer. If i wanted to buy a WHOLE NEW eset S.Suite 8 (at local retailer) for a 2nd computer, would this clash. I would use a different email address for 2nd computer, but i would like to keep all all my ifo (forum, etc). I have had a reply that said i could increase present license, but i just want the whole pkg. on a 2nd computer. What are your thots on this? Thanx.
  19. thanks TomFave, appreciate the help. I have had many S. Suites over the years. Decided to go with a proven (Nod32) antivirus. Thot w. firewall was getting better ratings. I have a wireless router - maybe that is enough firewall? MBAM Free is something i have used now & then. Thanx again.
  20. Hi there. Is Nod 32 compatible with MBAM FREE. Is Nod 32 compatible with zone alarm FREE firewall? Or is windows firewall good enough. Thanks - this is a good forum.
  21. thanks. i kind of figured that was it - i was just concerned that i as getting the updates when i would do it manually when i went online.
  22. Eset keeps reporting on the update screen the follwoing: virus signature database ended with an error. - Server not found. I work mostly offline - does nod32 send updates on a regular basis? Is it possible to only update virus update manually? Thanks. Im a newbie with eset, but i like it.
