I raised a support ticket and hope they will resolve the issue so that their documentation allows correct functioning.
In the meanwhile, I can confirm a workaround based on what has already been said here.
Update your repo address to include the https address as found in chapter II here: https://support.eset.com/en/kb6749-eset-security-management-center-repository-is-not-working-7x
Please see my screenshot attached for the setting.
That has fixed it on both our old VA and our new VA we were advised to make to fix the issue.
